Hello, as a novice to the world of vintage omegas does anyone have any advice or experience with buying from watches of Bath? I’m not looking to be a true collector and have pieces that are untouched etc more looking to own something that is beautiful and works. Thanks to all in advance.

I Second @Spruce input. The learn how to fish thread is a wealth of knowledge that can save you from making a mistake. I have said this before, I wish I knew about it when I was early on in my vintage journey it would have saved me a ton of time and $

I’ve never heard of ‘Watches of Bath' but someone else may have.
Do they specialise in dive watches? 😉
Seriously though, it’s worth reading this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/learn-how-to-fish.52603/ ,and, if you find a watch you like, check it out here before you buy it.
Thank you for this link - very helpful. Watches of Bath just resell preowned watches although they also restore / service etc

If you are interested in a particular watch, upload some photos and we a give you some feedback. This is the vintage Omega forum, so it is typically for watch from the 70s or earlier.

Interesting. It looks like there is another business with similar name: https://www.watches-of-bath.com/. Purely anecdotal and only one data point, but my son recently bought a watch from this latter (hyphenated) site and was very pleased - better than the photos and running well.

Its the same site same watches. I note it lists a number of watches as stolen during a robbery. Some of watches not bad at all.

Thanks. It looked different to me when I quickly glanced at the websites (one hyphenated, one not) but I am certainly no expert on this business. Only data point, again, is a recent purchase by my son from the hyphenated site. It was shipped promptly to U.S. and is a beauty. No red flags to us on the watch but we are still learning.

Thanks. I’m waiting for another dealer to send me details and photos of a cal 321.

But in the meantime, a very different watch, which I understand is a bit polarising in regards to whether people like it or not! Would be very keen to receive this groups feedback on this 166.067. Have been told dial is near meant mint, the bracelet will be aftermarket.

Welcome!

A near-mint example would carry the original brushing on the case, while this one has been polished to a full mirror as it seems.

Check this article by @dsio for some info on the ref and for pics of what an actually good example looks like:

Thank you - so fine for someone who wants to wear a working watch but not something a collector would touch (although appreciate this model isn’t collector worthy) and should carry top price? As a total novice, finding it hard to distinguish especially when it comes to polishing so finding this group and all the help articles invaluable

Yep, pretty much. Looks like a REALLY nice dial + hands (the inconsistency between that and the hands is mildly concerning, and makes me wonder if this is a case-swap), but if you could get this at the 'right' price, it is a REALLY wearable watch with a fantastic movement.

Thanks for your advice, really helpful. Probably the impossible question, but what would be considered the ‘right’ price or what would you say someone shouldn’t pay over? South/south west England / London prices (I expect this makes a difference unfortunately as it seems to with many things)

Looks like a 'near mint' one went not long ago for a touch less than $800 on ebay. For an over polished one, maybe $5-600? Perhaps a little extra because London, but I don't have a good idea of how much extra that costs. It'd come down to how bad the overpolish looks.

There is no world in which I would call it mint or near mint. Just an average example with a below average case and some dirt/blemishes on the dial. I think you can use previous sales as a guide because there is nothing special about it.

And as mentioned, this particular reference has a smaller market than most because of the shape of the case. Personally, I am not a fan.
