Ah “goodish?” What makes you say that, it’s cool just wondering why you choose that assessment

I’m a huge fan of the pie pans and that likely distorted my comment. It’s a great pickup 😉

Just doing my job ma’am. Really the comfort of the strap got me a little. I would definitely pick one up for one of the many I’m scratching my head trying to pick something out for. But yes it was a good day. My new compadre was wearing the 50 fathoms he “picked up last week” which is such a nice looking watch it made me laugh. He just has crazy stuff I won’t bother going into. Cool guy though obviously lives in a different sphere of the universe than I but I certainly don’t find him to snob like or whatever. Damn that travel case he had has so many nice things in it. Oh well I’m pleased with what I have, really just looking for one more thing then I can start collecting hot wheels cars or something different I’m getting bored with watches.
What I like about watchgecko is that they have a huge selection in 18mm- which us vintage guys love. Most places have the obligatory 18mm brown strap and black strap and a dozen NATO’s in yawn worthy colors. Gecko has suedes, rally’s, dressy or causal with different stitches and different textures- some fun stuff.

I’ve bought a few straps from Watchgecko including a tropic rubber and a cordura that I really enjoyed. They do DHL express shipping free to the US with orders over 100 GBP. Perfect excuse to load up on straps. 👍

Both terrific watches! I think the constellation is a dome dial 14902 since the dial does not have "officially certified," otherwise it's a 168.005 that has that (doubt it).

it should be a 14902 -so pre ‘63, but I think there have been uncommon 168.005s seen with the ‘missing text’ dial. (It would still be no later than ‘63)

it’ll have a cal561 under the hood.
The cyclops crystal is unusual.
The BOR is a nice bonus.

regarding the condition,
the dial looks a bit grubby which is unusual for Connies - I wonder if this would clean?
The case is okay but looks like it may have lost the definition of the facets on the lugs.
the BOR has some stretch (as most do)

still a nice watch though IMHO

Pretty nice pickups, and great that you got the BOR bracelet for the Connie. PMC gave a good assessment.

The Cosmic probably has a 565 inside, hence the quickset date.

And I agree with your assessment on the dial it certainly isn’t pristine has a bit of a “dirty” look to it but still pretty solid. For its age I think it held up pretty well. I don’t think I’d get into trying to clean it. I’ve seen some disaster stories of people trying to do so. I’ve come across some pretty yellowed dials in seamasters over the years, this is nowhere near as bad as I’ve seen on some older watches

Elon, don’t be modest.
I have no clue how to open ‘em, but that cosmic is a beauty.

Edit:
wait wait. I figured it out. You need tool 107.

Yes, Tool 107 for these:

The split stem is removed by pull the crown out firmly. You then press the movement portion of the stem back in (it will have been pulled out to the farthest position when removing the outer part), then remove the crystal, turn the movement CCW slightly, and it can be removed.

Cheers, Al

I wouldn’t normally suggest cleaning a dial - I’m usually dead against such things - only in this case it looks more like dirt than patination and as you say the dial looks okay otherwise.
something to discuss with your watchmaker perhaps.

I was just gonna write exactly the same. Might be removable with some air, without any harm to the dial.

A 9-row BoR with 70 end links might be a better fit, by the way, if you’d like to wear it on a bracelet. Not much of a difference in price, I think - you might be able to trade them 1:1.

Definitely nice finds, hope you’ll enjoy them. 😀

Ha ha yup my bad. I am very far from a watch expert one digit off is actually pretty good for me. Now I need to look up the difference betwixt the two. Just for my own knowledge, that’s how we learn right. Gives me something different to read about anyway I read way to much psychology BS

Well I guess it’s certainly worth looking into then. If the dial could be cleaned via air that would be worth a go. The guy I bought it from is requesting to buy it back. He is not being an idiot or demanding just asking me if I am thinking of selling it give him a call first. If I am going to go that route I will leave things as they are.

Al out of curiosity can a watch maker use a more universal tool for this job or must it be the 107. Dynamics are similar in nature needing a mentioned tool for the crystal I believe, just wondering if the job must be done with these specific tools or can another be used and still be done properly?

Would he want it back right now or is he asking for dibs should you ever want to sell it at some point in the future?

I’m taking it as dibs for future but if he did have a change of heart I would be fine just handing it back I know what it’s like to regret a sale and I would be ok with or without it, it’s only a watch.

here you go.....
http://users.tpg.com.au/mondodec/movement3.pdf

The 565 is a quickset movement like the 564 but the 564 is chronometer rated.
