Condition, condition, condition. It's a very good example of what it is and I've seen them sell for more in this state. To my mind, it was still cheap, despite that hideous strap. Just imagine where it'd be if it had a black dial.

Gold cap (albeit rose), scratches and inscription on the back, spotted and aged dial and knackered crown? Possibly relumed hands and black lume on the dial?

I wouldn't have looked have looked twice at this, I have to say

EDIT: that being said, I'm not really surprised to see the final price. Not worth it to me, but I can easily see someone think it would be worth that much.

Seems high to me as well. The case is sharp, but the dial, hands, and crown aren't appealing. Given the fact that it was a "private" auction, there could have been some hidden bidding shenanigans. Or maybe just two people desperate for a Christmas gift.

I sometimes wonder how bad my eyes are. I still don't see many scratches, and certainly none that are deep, on it. The dial has aged, but I like it. Yup, crown's gone but they're not hard to source and take two minutes to replace. Good thing I'm spent up for the year ;)

I am a big fan of the aged dial too. Although the picture does look slightly 'warm'.

To be perfectly honest, the damage to the dial was more noticeable on some other of the auction photos at high resolution. It probably will look much better on the wrist, and not bad if you're willing to swap out the crown and re-lume the hands. I tend to have a knee-jerk negative reaction to gold-capped/gold-filled watches, but I should be more open-minded. This case faces up very nicely, and it's certainly a valid way to get into a gold-colored case at a lower price point.

I like the dial. But why are hands lumed while dial isn't?

The dial is - see the black dots at the end of each indice? It's much more noticeable in the photo directly above your post and, seeing that photo blown up that large, I'm wondering how much the watch has been prepped for sale.

Case one this one is very polished, hands are missing their lume, price appropriate.
