Has anybody on this thread or know someone else that has ever been mugged for their Omega? - curious if it attracts as much attention as other watch brands

Tldr: title

I've had my friend get robbed (with his girlfriend with him) in his apartment for his fake Rolex. Somebody casing the joint obviously thought it was a real one.

He wasn't even wearing it when they came in but they knew he had one.

Omega can’t even sell new Omega, it’s not worth breaking door for a used one. ::stirthepot::
You are safe. Buy that Omega.

For the vast majority of people, Rolex is the only luxury watch brand they know. Only watch enthusiasts notice brands other than Rolex. I would think the risk of being robbed for an Omega is no greater than the risk of being robbed generally.

There was a recent instance in my state in Australia where someone listed a Rolex for sale on Facebook Marketplace. A buyer pretended to be interested, then the next night a group of people with knives broke in and robbed the seller. If you have something easy to steal, easy to sell and very expensive, don't tell people where you live. 😜

Rolexs are for getting stolen and impressing dickheads...........Omegas are for wearing and keeping!

Darwinism at work.

He probably nicked it anyway and getting his own medicine was just karma.

I'm not really ever in high crime areas, but one of the benefits of my 38.5mm Skyfall Aqua Terra being my most worn watch is that it draws no negative attention. No dive or GMT bezel. No chronograph function. No fluted bezel. No polished center links.

And it looks as good with a tuxedo as it does with jeans and a T-shirt.

Happened in the Netherlands a few years ago, a friend of someone who got mugged of his fake Rolex died from gunshots when he tried to help.

Shooter got 9 years and mandatory psychiatric treatment (state will decide fit for release so could be life long incarceration).

got 'jumped' by a group of weens a few years ago my friend had his pre ceramic daytona on, another a heuer monaco and myself a modest vintage longines, basically just refused to hand our stuff over and told them to fυck off, minor tussel and alot of sprinting to the pub after by me and my mates but we got to keep our watches, having said than if they were older and proffesional crims as opposed to chancer thieves we may have reconsidered

You can blame your mate with the Daytona for attracting the attention of the scumbags with his as flash as a rat with a gold tooth watch.
It of course may well not be the case at all, but you can have fun blaming him anyway!

I would not be too confident about that... Many will recognize a speedmaster / PO....
People even get robbed for a smartphone...

That's quite a story. Put me in the skeptical column on this one.

I got mugged and had a Panerai stolen but I'm almost positive it was a fluke and they had no idea I was wearing any watch and would have robbed me or whoever was there regardless. Lucky bastards 😒😞🤬

When my home was broken into back in 2020 they found both sets of keys to my car, took that, took the house keys, my wallet, and the Apple AirPods, the Rolex Daytona was sitting next to the airpods and got left behind.

I’m glad they left the watch, and I got lucky and the car came back with no significant damage and has been great the last 4 years but it doesn’t take much intelligence to be a burglar I guess.

In hindsight it was a pretty horrible house we were renting, right next to a train station, the only nice looking house in a bad neighbourhood and no security, quickly moved out and into a very secure high rise apartment.

Living close to a train station is always bad even in a good area, the younger scum buckets must tend to use the trains to move throughout the city, as there is always more vandalism, graffiti, petty thefts, fights, assaults and trouble close to train stations.
Of course this only really applies to the random unplanned opportunistic crime committed by juvenile dickheads, once they get older and more car based they can easily get anywhere.
