How come so many people put deposits knowing it is a non-limited regular collection model? 📖

Probably because they want to get it ASAP.

I would never agree to put a deposit down for such a watch… putting my name on a list would be degrading/frustrating enough…

For me, I live several hours away from my nearest Omega Boutique and this is my first Omega purchase. I’ve visited the OB a few times to try on and consider the standard Moonwatch, but no real relationship. I expressed interest to the Boutique, and they let me know that there would be an example of the watch in store this weekend. I drove down, and I knew as soon as I saw the white dial option in person that it would be my first Omega. My decision was simple- I know I can’t pop-in from time to time to check on my status/availability, I have never purchased a watch from this boutique, and I absolutely know I want to buy it… and the quickest way to ownership is to simply pay for it before it’s delivered. No problem, in my opinion. The next-closest AD/OB is 3+ hours away from me… I’m not exactly able to cross-shop.

The OB was clear that they are going to take less than 20 full deposits, and while they do not “know” how many watches they will receive, they firmly believed they could deliver 20 in the first 1-3 months. So, I paid to know I’m getting the watch (hopefully) before Memorial Day.

My opinion of full-deposits will be completely reversed if I’m still waiting in June/July, of course… haha

FOMO, the Snoopy Effect. There is also distrust of Omega Corp., they indicate that this will be a regular production item, but people are skeptical, Omega has fallen into the artificial scarcity game to juice interest and sales. Some Boutiques immediately went into deposit mode, some a 100% pay-in-full payment, and that doesn't promote trust.

Watch of Switerland do not have them in the boutiques and do not expext the Omega Professional White dial before May in the Boutiques. They say its extremely populair in demand and deposits down.

Its like paying for FastPass at Disney, you still wait in line but you get to go before people that dont want to pay extra. Just getting a priority place in line is all it is. So a bit of FastPass mixed with some FOMO ala @Evitzee (totally agree with that take also)

My OB asked me to do the same deposit to be on the waitlist. I politely declined but said the day they tell me I can come in and buy one, like I have in the past, I will. She said I'm "on the list" anyways, though I assume behind the prepaid ones.
(For reference, this conversation was all on day1 shortly after the OB opened for the day. We will see how it ages)

Not all OBs are equal. The Swatch owned OB near me had a display model and required a full (supposedly refundable) deposit. The AD owned OB near me did not have a display model and only required a $1,000 deposit. However, the AD owned OB expected the corporate OB stores to receive the watches first, followed by the AD owned OBs and then the standard ADs.

That makes sense. I’m curious- how does one know if an OB is owned by an AD?

The AD owned OB's usually sit within or next to the parent store.

Ahh, gotcha. I’d assume the associates would also not have swatchgroup email addresses? I was surprised the other day to find an IWC boutique in a mall that was actually owned by a nearby AD. Wouldn’t have known had they not mentioned it.

Every picture I have seen of the watch makes it seem as if the hands are slimmer than on the standard model.

I assume that is simply my eyes playing tricks on me but has anyone else noticed this?

I just went into the OB on my lunch break to try on. Didn’t notice but also didn’t compare with the black one. Good news, doesn’t look oversized on my 6 inch wrist. Didn’t love it though.

I was in San Antonio today to pick up my car and decided to drop by the Omega Boutique at LaCantera to eye the new Speedmaster. No dice, all covered in construction hoarding and plastered with a large Omega watch telling me the place is being remodeled. No construction going on as far as I could see or hear. Not sure what they are remodeling, the old store was in the classic Omega style. Checking around online I saw it posted that they are going to be closed for 6-8 weeks, that's a long downtime. Good news is there is a Rolex boutique next door which was recently remodeled and expanded, they actually had watches in the window....Daytona, Subs, DJs, but all with the normal, 'These watches are for display purposes only'. So business as usual with Rolex, but in nicer surroundings.

Anyone heard anything from their OB on expected deliveries of stock to OBs? I'm curious how quickly these full deposits will be allocated watches.

Can't wait for this one = ) Have had a couple of white/light colored dial Speedys... some whiteish.. some were grey... some silver... but this one really pops... and can't wait to see in the flesh how the applied hour markers mesh with the dial. Love it!

Hm,

should I go for the new white dial Speedy as well?

Save your money, you have the best pure white dial version.

I hope the remodeling is genuine. Two years ago our local OB in Michigan got boarded up in a similar fashion, and after a couple of months it went from "remodeling" to permanently closed.
