Sorry in advance for a lot of text. Hey guys don't know if anyone here is interested in this but I'll post it anyways because it has to be one of my best watch finds ever. Couple weeks ago I was traversing through my regular thrift store and in the showcase I noticed two little ladies watch movements sitting on top of a very old leather pouch. They wanted $5 for them both and I thought they were junk and dismissed it. As I was leaving I decided to check them out real quick. The Hampden was junk and I knew that but I quickly looked the Hamilton serial number up and was in awe. I bought them and quickly went home to research. As it turns out in 1917 men were starting to wear wrist watches because of WW1. So to quickly get in the wrist watch market for men Hamilton got these movements that were original for ladies pendant watches and converted them into wrist cases. These movements are pretty rare to come by and ever rare to get one in working order. They used the 981, 983, and the 985. I have the 983 movement 17 jewel and it looks like a very high end Swiss movement from that time, some say it looks like a Patek. Sure mine has green verdigris all over but under that everything looks nice. I have my watchmaker working on it right now, won't know if anything is broken until next weekend, he's confident it will fire up again. Also, to add on to my luck awhile back I bought an original pocket wrist watch conversion and it turns out its the EXACT size I need for this Hamilton!! I could possibly wear Hamilton's first wrist watch for men. http://www.hamiltonwristwatch.info/Detail - 0-Sized Prototype.htm http://www.hamiltonwristwatch.info/Detail - 0-Sized Cushion - 983 Silver.htm http://www.vintage-hamilton-wristwatches.com/2013/08/hamilton-wristwatches-by-date-1917.html
