Ever seen one of these before? Saw this on an auction in Monaco and it looks very odd, take a look at the red lume work. Looks like it's been done with a spoon.

It's amazing how some people just can't leave perfection alone. Sometimes you have to take the crayons away from the children before they start drawing on the walls.

It's not the most innovative customisation but does anyone know the reasoning behind the red lume plots?

The 2 and 5 are done in red for "25", according to Fratello it was for Hackett's 25th anniversary.

I'm guessing the 25 is the 25th Anniversary. The 10, well, maybe the amount of times the watchmaker wretched while he was doing it?

In theory, I don't hate it. The -69 is a relatively common reference and the LE does tell a somewhat amusing story. The execution is just so bad.

What's actually genius about this is despite the bad execution and heresy of butchering a perfectly fine watch with their branding, they have now carved themselves into the Speedmaster story. In 50 years from now, people may think of the Hacket with the same mystique they do the Tiffany dials....I highly doubt it, but still- Hacket has "hacked" their way into the legacy.

The fratellowatches article appears to say they also customized some vintage Seamasters.

"... Hackett bought two types of vintage watches: the Omega Seamaster and Omega Speedmaster Professional. 25 pieces were offered to mark the 25th anniversary..."

Am curious to see how the Seamasters turned out - Google search doesn't pull anything up...

On the theme of practice makes perfect.
If that was 23 of 25. # 1 must look hideous.

If you want to pay over the odds for something, I can, errrrrr, supply you with a nice ‘fucked’ edition number 1 of 1 (because no one else would want to buy it)!

There are at least 2 other companies that did the same thing. There is a reason no one really cares. It’s worse on the Rolex side.

What I find concerning on this is that they rounded up 25 vintage Omega’s, we assume not highly expensive pieces (although a ‘69/70 is not play money), had them modified, and mounted and strap and put it in a fancy roll. Did they service them? Did they offer a warranty. And at $2.5k, they had to still be making a serious profit, so what was the quality of the original watches they bought (the one above ain’t looking so hot to me).
It’s one thing to have Tiffany order new stock that is store branded for sale directly from Omega, it’s another to round up 40 year old watches and rebrand them for sale.
