He was just starting out forming a harem. May have been collecting wives and watches.

i'd say the marriage lasted right up to the point where she turned the watch over and read the inscription. Violence ensues, there's a call to 911, police, EMTs, lawyers ...

I happen to have a more positive take on this inscription, perhaps based on my own experience, and somewhat odd(?) sense of humor.
I have sometimes introduced Mrs. Darlinboy::love:: as my first wife. This description is totally accurate she is my first, current, and only wife.

The fact that she tolerates this introduction with only a roll of the eyes is one of the (many) reasons we’re still together.

Tis true. Could be in reference to an inside joke. Something that puts a smile on her face or perhaps laughter.

To my first wife with love... no name... like he didn’t know it yet.

Perhaps he was carrying this thing around already for Mrs. Right when she showed up...

It’s a pretty good opening line if you trying to pick a chick up, “hey baby, you look like my next main squeeze, wanna watch?”

Dude probably hung around Vegas a lot.

Bet it’s a redial to boot!

Yes but the type of attorney makes all the difference. Divorce or criminal defense tells an entirely different story. :D

My theory: the watch was purchased by a wealthy polygamist. The allure of a lifetime of sexual variety was too great, and he caved.

In the end, the constant chatter was overwhelming, and this is what he bought wife number four:

In polygamous societies, doesn't the first wife have a higher station than newer wives?
It may actually be a compliment/status symbol.
