Anyone ever polish/grind down the raised medallion on the back of a speedmaster before? I wear my watch pretty tight and the sharp edge of the small medallion has been digging into me during the summer.

Have you got a photo?
Mine doesn't have a medallion, just nice and flat.

If there was anything uncomfortable I would get an aftermarket display back before messing around with an original back.

Photos would be good to illustrate. Doubt the words grinder and Speedmaster have featured in many posts before .

You haven't seen many of the Speedie posts by @Mad Dog then have you.

You can also try one of these first before doing surgery to your watch 😀

this!

I think hes talking about a modern .005 caseback or similar which can be pretty sharp. Not the vintage ones 😀

That’s a very sensible thing to try before you bust out the power tools.

I think the sticker should provide some "padding" even for the modern caseback 😀

Never confuse grinder with grindr. I did once, and I'm still walking funny........😲

Yes it works both ways. I’d organized a meet up in a secluded car park and imagine my disappointment when I arrived and found this.

I generally add a 1/3 link (they call them half links, but...) in the summer.

You might also consider getting a display back instead?

Maybe fill it in with Bondo, but you'll still need a grinder. 😁

Valve grinding compound and a sheet of glass. I think I have some left over from my old flathead Triumph

It’s good for facing engine cases too

I’m not sure the model number that I have. The watch is about a year old now.

I'm presuming that you're referring to the raised seahorse logo in the middle of the Moonwatch. Mine is on a bracelet which (when it's hot weather) is just a tad too tight. Adding 1 link makes it very floppy, the 2 micro-adjust holes aren't enough and the Speedmaster bracelet doesn't offer any half links. Omega offers an adjustable clasp, but it requires different end links and the clasp is almost twice as large. I'm currently wearing it on the black NATO that came with the kit, seems to work ok while I'm waiting for the leather strap w/deployant clasp I have on order. I'll use the leather strap in warmer months, switch to the bracelet when its colder. Omega's NATO's are quite silky and might be a solution for you. I too, tend to wear on the tight side and everything with a buckle or clasp seems to be either a bit too tight or too loose, especially when the weather is warm. In any case (no pun intended), I wouldn't consider altering the back due to the negative effect that would have on value, I think you'd regret it later. Try an Omega NATO first, then consider, like has been suggested here in previous posts, an alternative back like the flat display. Another option would be to get a damaged or marred back and smooth it instead.

Which bracelet do you have? The 1998 definitely has half links, actually about 2/5, and they're not always listed under 1998 but 1610, which is the same thing except for the ends and clasp.
