Grey market vs AD

Thanks for the info on this thread. I’m hoping to purchase my first Omega a Seamaster 300 next weekend and noticed a deep discount from online websites over the retail price.

Will visit my local DFW AD’s first to see if they are interested in working with me. Do you think a 15% to 20% discount expectation is reasonable in today’s Covid market? Trying to determine a minimum discount % I should take as there are a number of AD’s locally.

A year ago I tried to get a discount on the new seamaster. No dice. There are also only 2 ADs in my city.

You would be crazy not to negotiate with Omega ADs in your area. I bought a new Speedy sandwich last year at 15% discount without even trying - just said 'what is your best price?'

Several months later I went back for a Seamaster Blue 300 and got 21%. If I were buying new right now I would ask for 25% and stick to my guns until they agreed. Good luck!

It is a pity that my advice does NOT apply to buying a new Rolex.......

You will loose the Coffee , chocolate and maybe a small knive or eventually a Nato strap offered in the AD , nothing else.

When do you get that from an AD?

Hey all, just a quick update: so I took the plunge and bought the '57 - see my avatar picture. Really pleased with it and to be honest, not sure why this model never took after after launch in 2013 and apparently it will be discontinued soon. Anyway, wanted to say a big thanks to you all

Congratulations! Just wanted to add that the chrono24 escrow service seemed pretty safe to me, in case there was something wrong with the watch or warranty. Some brands offer registering online for a warranty extension; that seems a good way of checking that the warranty is legit.

It is a regular production model. I think 25% discount is possible. If it doesn't work out locally, try calling ADs out of state. Good luck!

The 57 is great--if you don't mind the size/proportions. I had the broad-arrow, faux-patina version for almost two years, also bought from a gray dealer on C24. $9K msrp, got it for like $5250 brand new with warranty card. I loved that watch for a year or so, and then one day ... the thickness became marginally annoying, but more than that it was the proportion of the lugs I just didn't like anymore. Traded it a year ago for a new Railmaster '57 trilogy. Sometimes I do miss it, because the movement is rather cool.
