Grey dial Speedmasters have been the subject of discussion and debate on OF and I have previously posted some of the pre-STS pictures of a 105.002 that Ash let me have. It has been with STS for what has seemed like an age, but has probably only been a couple of months. Anyway, Simon Freese has sent through some pictures with the message that the watch will be ready to collect next week and I am full of excitement. Here is the watch as I delivered it And here is how it now looks. I've had the bracelet cleaned but prefer leather because of my spindly wrists... The above pictures don't do justice to the satin sheen and colour of the dial - but this one comes close to capturing it. It isn't a flat grey at all. But it isn't blue either. Simon has also included some images of the movement as he was putting it back together. The inner workings of Speedmasters are ridiculously beautiful. Despite the paint surface damage that these grey dials seem vulnerable to, I am delighted with the look of the watch. Simon thought that the back had not been off the watch since it was new and was sure that the dial was absolutely original too. Hopefully, I'll have some more pictures to post after I collect it next week. But huge thanks to Simon Freese and his colleagues at STS who are just the best people to take your treasured watches to for servicing and repair.
Amazing that any precision mechanical device can run that long without lubrication and without destroying itself.
Thats a beauty, I love the character of the dial. How nice of Simon to take the time to send pics also, I don't think Bienne provide that service I bet you can't wait to see it. Lovely catch
