Bar Harbor, Northern Maine. Flying recon on those pesky Canadians?? Probably not. If I had more life insurance, Mrs Gemini might let me take a ride. Truth be told, I'm more trusting of vintage watches than vintage planes.

The victor of WWII!!!! The 'ole Flying Fortress B-17......needless to say.....that plane is the reason why Europe is free coming up on 70 years later......

God Bless those Warfighters and Airmen!

Yes indeed. Especially after the arrival of the P51 Mustang with the British Rolls Royce engine.

Cool pictures! I used to build plastic models of those when I was a kid.

Me too. I had them hanging all over my bedroom ceiling. That is, until I had a pillowfight with my brother one day.

Great plane and played a significant part once defence switch to offence but saying that plane is the reason Europe is free is something of a stretch.

Purely talking about the battle in the skies, there's a couple of planes from Hawker and Supermarine that played a small part.

I was lucky enough to see Sally B, along with a mk9 Spitfire, Hurricane and a Buchon 109 at Eastbourne yesterday. Great to see them still flying.

My wife's uncle Bob flew a full slate of missions in these. Day after he shipped out, his plane went down with the new crew. This plane and its B24 companion are always regarded as harbingers of mid summer here.

It is more of a metaphor, but technically you are correct.

I took a ride in a B17 a couple years ago. Absolutely unforgettable.

Just like the end of the movie Dunkirk. No need for the propellors to turn to keep plane aloft. :)

Just like the end? I think that thing was gliding for over half the movie.

Yes they often miss details while filming. I caught this in a thousands of second screen grab. I know the skies were hazy, but come on!!

I saw a B-29, the Fifi, fly low over the beach earlier this summer. It was surreal seeing it so close.

Cool sight to behold. Last year we had a B-52 fly over Ft. SIll and make a couple of practice runs dropping bombs on the firing range, it was pretty impressive.

Huge plane, but cramped as feck inside the crew area...room for bombs, not people...
