Thanks for all positive comments!
Yes, of course, the watch was restored by Simon Freese (and so were made those nice pictures I post here). What a great guy - some of you knew it already. It took quite some time to arrange everything, as I wanted to meet with Simon in person and also pick up the watch personally. I really appreciate that he could take my watch for service and had a patience to answer all my questions (you can imagine how PITA type of customer I must be), describe and explain everything. Very good experience all the way. Also I had a pleasure to be one of very first customers in his new workshop. 😀
BTW, for paranoiacs like me - there was no problems with radium at the airport (so it can't be THAT dangerous). 😉

So... Before:

this one was stolen from Simon's instagram 😉

A wonderful back story and simply an astonishingly beautiful watch. Brilliant that you showed intelligence, patience and respect in how you treated it, congratulations to both you and Mr Freese. I do hope that you are in a position to be able to keep it and enjoy it, for a while at least.....

Holy shit! Absolutely stunning!

Out of curiosity, what strap do you have on it? I love the box stitch.

I think I might sleep with it on if it were me... after checking out how many microsieverts the front AND back throw off

OMG what a stunning watch. And to think you were about to completely "destroy" the watch at the beginning of this thread (with well meaning but uninformed intentions). Thank God you found this forum ! Never let that one go !!!

Holy mother of..............

What a difference, a stunningly brilliant job by Simon, I have heard his name mentioned but never had any dealings with him but I think we can say with some certainty that the man is a genius.

Enjoy your restored watch, it looks awesome, well done and congratulations on keeping a memory alive.

This might be my favorite watch ever. I'd call dibs but I can't afford it even if you wanted to sell it.

Love it just as it is...
Speaks a million words, a lifetime of history
The person who bought it
The company who made it
It could never be replaced
Wear it well & with pride & joy my friend
in memory of your grandfather.

Wonderful results there!

Be sure to get it properly appraised and insured if you plan to take it out of the safe and wear it. My Grandfather's 1970's Rolex was properly insured, but the mini fire-safe was not bolted down and it went missing in 2011, so also make sure you have safe storage.
