Grandfather‘s Omega Seamaster

It is my first post so please forgive my lack of specific language. I inherited this watch almost thirty years ago when my grandfather died. At age 20, I had no special interest in watches so I kept it in the drawer ever since only to have it finally serviced four months ago. The watchmaker’s bill tells me it‘s a caliber 354 (bumper). The serial number is 1297xxx and the ref. 2767-4. I have done some research in the past few weeks and learned a little bit about crosshair dials and two tone dials. But I have nowhere found a similar Seamaster that has comparable hour markers (crystal? glass?). Also the shape of the first „S“ in Seamaster seems quite unique. I have no reason to believe that the dial is not original. But is there anyone who can put the hour markers and the „S“ in a context to all the other details of the watch? Thank you!

Welcome and congrats: a beautiful watch in a perfect case. The exact model can be seen on the case-back: but inside ;-)
The S is called "coathanger-S" .
Can you describe the colour of the dial or make a picture with a small sheet of white paper aside?

Many thanks for your swift replies! I would describe the colour of the dial as „champagne“. I added two more photos.

Some similarities in this dial here
Mine is a 2846, from 1950 (15.3xx.xxx) with a 501 calibre.

Enjoy this great heirloom.

The « coat hanger » S is completely legit… and was used until the begining of the 60s… I should look for the OF thread mentioned by Dan or check on the « from seamaster to seamaster » book. I’ll be back 😀

Nice watch but it wont be from 1950. The earliest model 2846 was seen in 1955. I'd suggest yours is ~1956 with that serial number. Yours is actually atypical. Most 2846s have the rounded S form, the coathanger S fat lugs are usually the earlier bumper models but they did chop and change styles right the way up to the end of the '60s.

I stand corrected. Just read my xls file : I should have checked 😀 Thanks
