    Hi all,

First post here, please be nice! I recently found my late grandfather's 2 omegas. After a little winding, both started running. Was thinking of servicing it for my dad but would like to know if these are genuine. Didn't open the caseback as i'm afraid i would spoil it. Just would like to check if there are any obvious signs to it being a fake? Thank you!

Genuine watches, both look in reasonable condition, well worth servicing as there is plenty of years life left in those too. Cases look very sharp so be very careful who you sent them too for service, in the UK I would recommend STS or in the US someone like Archer, you don't want the cases ruined by someone who has no idea what they are doing.

Suggest you also have the hands cleaned on the first one as part of the service

    Thanks for the reply! :)
I live in Singapore, but sent an inquiry to archer asking if they would take it. Will also consider going to the local AD.

I also just found one more omega after some more of his watches were uncovered. This one looks like its in the greatest need for a service. The crown stem totally comes out from the watch when i tried to set the time, but it seems to be running.

Please don't let your local AD (or boutique) service them, they will almost certainly demand to turn them into as new condition and take away their character. There are probably some reasonable independent watchmakers in Sg, start a thread asking the question.

For this first watch, the date window is missing the edges.

So i got the omegas awhile back and i wanted to thank you guys for the advice! my original plan was to send them back to the boutique, but you guys convinced me otherwise. Movement of the connie looks pretty clean when the watchmaker first popped it open too! Sorry for the shitty iPhone pics tho!

I've been looking through the omega archives too, to try to see when/where/what models these are. But no luck so far. Just a long shot if anyone has a clue that could help! My dad says these watches were purchased by my grandfather around 30 years ago.

thanks for the tip! i guess i'll head back to my watchmaker one day so he can help me to pop open the case back. don't want to try opening it myself and messing it up.

    Good idea.
Make sure to take several (sharp) pictures from different angles of the movements and the inside of the casebacks and make sure to take pics of all the numbers on the movement.
The serial number is on the movement but I can't read it in your last picture.
The model number is, as mentioned before, on the inside of the caseback.

    Hope that helps.
    Best, Stephan

thanks again for the tip! if the serial number on the movement is the only above the '561 cal' text, i think it reads 15591473 (definitely X5591473, I think the first number is 1 since its abit blurry). I tried looking up the serial according to the list for the date, and filtered the archives for all constellations in that period (+/- 5 years) but couldn't find the watch itself. Nonetheless, thanks so much for your help :)

One other thing that concerns me is that i noticed that the constellation i hold has a cyclops over the date, which is on the underside of the crystal. Can't really tell from google pictures, but did they used to put cyclops on the underside?

I looked at a blow-up of your picture, looks more like 1,859... than 1,559...

If so, that would place the production date around 1961, dead-on for this model:

Yes, most crystal manufacturers put the magnifier underneath. Rolex is the exception, not the rule. There are some original Omega crystals like that. Look for a small Ω in the center of the crystal.

    Hope this helps,

Wow, thanks so much! I think that is it, although the link is a little different.

I think I've also found the the model on the day-date: http://www.omegawatches.com/planet-omega/heritage/vintage-details/14485/
Some google photos show it with a glitter-ish texture, while mine has a sunburst kind of effect.

    From a google search:
