My mother recently gave me my grandfather's "everyday watch". After he died, it was put in a drawer and forgotten about for over 40 years. I wound it and it started right up, losing about ten minutes per day. It is now back from service and it runs perfectly. If anyone can give me any information regarding the model, year, etc. it would be appreciated. The dial simply says LONGINES with no logo. The case is stainless and the case back has no markings at all. I realize that it is difficult to make an assessment with no view of the movement, but I don't want to take the case back off.

Very nice watch! If you ask the watchmaker who serviced it to pop open the case and write down the movement and case numbers, you will be able to estimate the date of manufacture and, if you email them to Longines, receive further information.

    Regards,

    Tony C.

Great heirloom. I'd wager it's from the 40's or early 50's.

    Welcome to the message board.

We love hearing these stories and seeing the pictures of watches that get passed down from grandfathers or fathers (but not uncles).

Here's the Longines site, join, send them your case ref. and mov't serial numbers and they'll provide you with archive information- who it was invoiced to and when, gratis. Great, speedy service.

Marvelous beauty. Love the crackled eggshell dial and aged luminous numbers.

Love the History....a wonderful watch with a great presence, they are only original once. Glad your respecting the history and keeping it 'real'.

That's a really beautiful watch (and has a great crown!).
