So I’ll stay with $500 to $700 Canadian dollars.

I agree. If that watch was in a jeweler or dealer showcase in NYC it would have a price of at least $300 USA.

I’m gonna go sentimental. It’s beautiful. The dial and hands are spectacular. Have the service done, and enjoy.

It looks nice and a family heirloom is priceless- but may I ask a silly newbie question, ie what are the signs it might be made by Omega?

Just the shape of the plates, the sunk heel on the balance cock, the crown wheel core. To me those are clues that it is Omega.

Pocket watches are the poor man of the watch world really
A small plated ladies watch is the only rung lower imho.
Such a shame because both can be quite beautiful!

Congrats on a very nice heirloom, I hope you will enjoy it for many more years. As others have noted, insurance is irrelevant for this watch. The monetary value is not high enough to worry about, and obviously insurance does not address sentimental value if the watch is lost or damaged. So the best thing is just to be careful with it.

Oh and by the way, it was his retirement watch, he worked at the Express and Star in Wolverhampton, his name was John Charles Gill, aka Grandad Pirate due to his boat moored at Barmouth. A good man who was loved by all. R.I.P cheers! x

I know it well being a Tipton boy originally myself and my family are still there now. Went to school with Stevie Bull. (Willingsworth)
Ar bin ya mush?

(Brother has a caravan in Dollgellau so know Barmouth well too)

I'm a soft southerner these days though 😀

Congrats on the watch

"Tatter" is not a word you see often. (Harold Steptoe's occupation) When I was a lad my bicycle was known as "The Tatting Special" by my friends because it had been built up and modified over the years with repairs after crashes and fitting better components whenever I could afford them. I'm a Black Country kid too, family from Wolverhampton, and very familiar with the Barmouth estuary.

Tarar a bit.

And a pig in every backyard, until December came. 30 yers agoo I went to the newly opened Blists Hill Living Museum near Ironbridge and found they had a pig in each yard of the old (genuine) houses there. I had to explain to one of the attendants what their purpose and fate was. Ahhhh black pudding!

1972/3 I was working at the old Wellington Tube Works in Great Bridge, Tipton. Now an Asda supermarket 🙁

I know that Asda well although the Princes end one is local to my parents.
All changed in Great Bridge but remember Wellington Tube and Brickhouse Lane there was a regular haunt for Cootin couples 👍

Think the building is still there but not sure it is still used or who owns it. I had a night in Wolves with my brother last xmas and remember seeing it.
Sure if you did some research and went there during business hours you could find out without too much time spent and then get access arranged
