I have been working to trim the fat from my collection, and decided against selling a few pieces and investing in 1 or 2 higher end pieces. My goal was to find a great 5513. That way I would have an original 300 no date paired with a 5513, a 166.024 paired with a 1680 Red and White, and Ploprof paired with 1665. I would then have pairs of the Omega and Rolex icons. Plus I would have my 145.012-67, 145.022-69 tropical and long E 1675. The other driving force was to only have original examples with factory case finish or at a maximum 1 light polish. Well, a few weeks ago, a close friend sent me a link to an old Sub at an online estate auction in CT. The pics looked good and the description was awful...it was dirty too, just like I like them! After hemming and hawing, I bid way over what I had intended and won the auction. It arrived yesterday, and wow...I am blown away. 2,9m serial non-serif dial with killer patina, mk2 insert is bronze grey fade, fat unpolished case with deep bevels, 9315 bracelet with no stretch or wear to clasp, and anot orig superdome crystal. Here are a few pics. Aucton photo Family shot Shots of the 5513...pretty sure the bracelet never came off...
Wow! Lucky you that's a sweet 5513 just what I am looking for! If you ever.........please do drop me a line, or if anyone else reading this has or knows where to find a similar beauty please tell. Wonderful watch just perfect, enjoy! M
Congratulations - I know you were looking forward to this one and I am sure it is as expected and more! Wear in the best of health!
Nicely done finding an unpolished example... they're getting more rare by the day! Looks really good with the superdome. BTW...The grunge between the lugs.... sheeesh!
What a quality piece should be. Certainly virtually untouched. Love the "pateted " 9315! Excellent score and addition to a very focused collection
Great score of an unmolested 5513 complete with the "pateted" bracelet but the icing is the lovely patina on the dial and hands. That's a winner!
First off congratulations on your beauty 5513. I love the way your collection is forming. Some great icons altogether some star studded line up!
Nice catch, Matt. I am no Rolex fan, but I appreciate the honest ones. Yours is definitely an honest example. Enjoy!
Let me add my voice to the chorus of "I'm not a Rolex fan, but that's a nice one." So what's the story behind Pateted?
Thanks for the thumbs up. I think it is a simple spelling error in manufacturing. Nothing too exciting, just some minutiae...
