Primero Protective Services have been notified. A team will be by to collect your watches for foster placement until a permanent home can be found. Noncompliance will result in fines and/or prosecution.

Don't worry, as seen on the left my EP is one of the 50 Pilot Divers with (original) sapphire crystal back, so won't be scratched.
Honestly, I am extremely careful with my watches. I take them of at home and since I heard this rumour about Natos scratching the backs, I double check every day. I haven't found any traces yet. Always keep the straps perfectly clean as well.

I vote on the anti-NATO strap side
I have almost all military watches in my collection and I realize that military watches are usually paired with NATO's
But I don't like the look or feel of them plus usually the end of it has to be re-tucked into the keeper creating an unfinished look IMO
I do have one piece ZULU straps that I wear that are hand made Shell Cordovan Horween made by Myron-can't beat the comfort on the wrist and the classy look. And they don't have the metal bars sticking up near the lugs
I also like straps from Jurgens

Good thing the Moon Walkers were photographed wearing their personal Speedy on an aftermarket JB Champion band instead of NATO's.

Could you imagine how many clapped-out hippocampi would be sold as grails?

Nah, never happen...

Back in the day most of my collection were on Nato's, used with some consideration and in moderation a great comfortable option 👍

Have to agree with the "unfinished looking" "clunky" and "downmarket" comments, any watch on a nato will look much better on a nice leather, alligator/croc, sharkskin, mesh or nice bracelet...JMHO.

And this is what makes this forum - hopefully we can all agree to disagree 👍

Well, yes, if you are going to wear your vintage Omegas down into the pits to work the coal seams.....

This is a tough NATO crowd!

You talk of NATO straps like they acid for your case backs. I guess if you were to wear your watch on NATO all the time there may be an issue. It is only Nylon on Stainless Steel after all. I just like to change things up a bit, if you want some colour NATO is the way to go. These are tool watches after all - this one in particular is 45 years old so I’m sure it’s seen its fair share of bumps and bruises. This NATO isn’t going to hurt it. Feel free to live a little.

There is no question that there are more refined / better looking options out there. You can’t really compare a $15 NATO strap with a nice custom made exotic from ABP (or other). Of course the watch will look and wear entirely differently.

Yes the NATO has a very unfinished look to it - that is preciously the look I’m going for. I get the sense that there aren’t a lot of Panerai fans here. I think the vintage ammo strap long tail Panerai look is also very clumsy looking but that’s the appeal.

I've tried. In my eyes, it takes them rapidly downmarket.

As far as down market is concerned - I really don’t wear watches to appeal to others. If I did they probably wouldn’t recognize my watch choices anyway. I would go so far to say that 99.9% of people that I meet have no idea of what’s on my wrist (I do not own any Rolex watches for this reason).

My two cents - like Alpha said agree to disagree

You should'nt be so sensitive...if you like them wear them and you certainly can show them here to see if "others like the combination." There are certainly plenty of people here who like NATO straps, you just happen to run into those who don't this time...anyway we still love you, even if you do wear NATO straps.😉

LOL - you missed the happy face at the end of that post - I tend to say "note to self" to be funny. But thank you for the love

I like 'em, too, but they definitely did permanent damage to the caseback of a Bathys 100 Fathom I used to own. I go easy on them now.

Reading this thread, I now understand what happened to the caseback of this 1948 Longines I bought recently...

But these patterns are from the much harder nylon straps from decades ago; also probably worn daily for a long time.
