    Hello all,

I got too excited on Ebay yesterday, and am now a proud (we'll see) owner of a vintage Geneve.

The seller still has a buy it now listing for the same watch up (which may be a bad sign):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-OME...zPwAAOSwr7ZW5bs3&_trksid=p2349526.m3874.l7936Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

I paid 295USD plus shipping. Needless to say, I am rather inexperienced with vintage watches. One thing that jumps out at me right off the bat is the second hand. It is too short and should be black. Does anything else scream BAD DEAL to any of you folks on here?

    Thanks in advance!!

    I see 2 bad things:
    1. As you said it is still listed, and for a higher price.
    2. It is listed as a 1973 but the description says it is a 1977.
To me that says hope you can get your money back and then run away as fast as you can. But that's just my 2 cents worth.

I actually have a straight lug Geneve on it's way to me (purchased for it's bracelet) that I don't know much about. It has a cal 565 and is from the late 60's (perhaps early 70's). The TT dial is presumed original. The hands and crown resemble those on my diver SM120 166.027 cal 565. Any other info, good or bad, would be appreciated, including approx value of the head. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Pvt-Public. I didn't even notice that is said 1977 in the body of the description. haha

I did a little more of the research I should have done before bidding, and the case back number (166 099) appears to be correct as well.

I may be grasping at straws!!

So, a run down of the situation:

    Negatives:
    - There are some inconsistencies in the EBay listing. Eg. 1977 listed in the body, and there is still a Buy it Now listing up with the same pics of the watch.
    - The second hand isn't consistent with other pics I have seen of the watch

    Positives:
+ the Ebayer has 100% positive feedback after 115 sales
+ the case back number looks to be correct for the watch
+ the movement number looks to be correct for the watch

For this situation, and for next time, does anyone have any recommendations on what else I can research or verify to authenticate this watch?
Or should I simply take it to a watchmaker once it arrives to get his/her opinion?

    Thanks again!
