Hi gang, thrilled to have just landed this gorgeous Movado pocket watch with Breguet numerals. I know from the inside of the caseback that it’s 14k gold, and the casemaker (hammer 115) is Favre & Perret SA of Switzerland. I also believe that the reference number (42511) confirms the 14k (“4”) and model (2511) but I’m having a heck of a time finding much out in terms of dating the piece (1930s, I suspect, based on the serial number - but not certain) or finding other examples of the same reference, either in photos or old catalogs/advertisements. Most photos I’ve seen of Movado pocket watches from the era also have “church key” or cathedral style hands, not slim/straight like these. Can anyone shed some additional light on the age/history of this wonderful piece? Or other examples I can compare to? I believe the caliber is 250N. Thanks in advance! Mark
Very clean piece! From von Osterhausen I could read that 250N was introduced in 1920 and end of production was ca 1930, with the notes: "very flat pocket watch". Also as I understand it are the first digits in the serial, indicators of the calibre and the the last digits indicate total quantity of the calibre manufactured.
Another cross post (with apologies), but thought it might be worth adding to this thread as well... steel Movado pocket watch, caliber 800M, about 47mm with lovely Art Deco numerals. Geez, these things are addictive!!!!
You have begun to realize how much more interesting pocket watches are, than other types of timekeepers.
This forum is awful : every time I think I know what I want to focus on, someone like you guys come up with something completely different and BANG, I now have something else to look for... Thanks (anyway) for sharing ! And congratulations for those finds
Another one, my fourth vintage Movado pocket watch! This one just landed. 14k gold, with matching bow, and beefy blue steeled hands to die for... Oh, and a mirror track around the sector dial. Inscribed inside from 1937! Quick video is available at my instagram feed as well. These things are addictive!! https://www.instagram.com/reel/CZjuvFpM7ro/?utm_medium=copy_link Pics below:
