Gold plated cases

Has anyone successfully cleaned up and re-plated any of the gold filled cases?

I’ve seen quite a number of nice watches that the plating is tired on and wondered how easy it is to have them replated?

There's quite a few videos of the process. Wristwatch revival has one. There's also plenty of tips and discussion on the subject matter on this forum and elsewhere.

I have 0 experience in plating, but I have in polishing. The resurfacing job must be flawless before plating. Before you even go there, I'd suggest practicing grinding and polishing "junk" cases to get a good feel of the process.

I’ve never found the plating on a watch case to stand up after re-plating. And if you have case that was gold-filled, or rolled gold plated, replating never successful. Electroplating is not the same process.

I replated a vintage Canadian Rolex Oyster model. I sanded the worn areas and feathered into the unworn parts, so you wouldn’t see any difference.

came out fine, but gold plate is shiny vs. The soft warm look of gold filled.

plated vs. worn. Figured plated would be better
