https://www.chrono24.fr/rolex/gmt-master-vintage-top-conditions-never-polished--id7792369.htm Here is a watch I saw for sale in Milan, according to the dealer it was never worn and is untouched. Seems more likely that it has been made to look that way. It looks to me like the case has been refinished, look at how thin the bottom left lug is and how close the chamfer is to the lug hole. The dial also seems to be relumed. The bracelet had a lot of stretch. Service insert too.
Interesting watch. It definitely looks worn and polished for that matter. The insert is NOT period correct and looks like it might even be a blue back. It is a nice MK2 dial which is correct for the reference. I wouldn't put one ounce of stock in the hand written warranty papers as they can be purchased on eBay all day long and filled in. The 7836/280 folded bracelet is very nice and is worth some serious money. I can't tell if its relumed, but from the pictures I'm inclined to say that it looks original to me, would need macro shots to confirm.
The unpunched but handfilled serial on the papers, the later bezel, plus the statement it's untouched and never worn..I see so many red flags here that bothering about the lume should be your least worry.
The case has been recut to look original, the bezel insert is a service replacement, and the accessories are most likely added later and not original and certainly not complete. The dial does look very nice and the bracelet is beautiful and very valuable on its own.
Unless it is the camera angle, that bottom left lug does look really narrow. I like the dial quite a bit, but too many issues/questions here...
I'm from Italy originally, but honestly I've seen unspeakable things come from Italian dealers, so when in doubt, best avoid...
It's not about you personally and you know that. It's about the cancer that grew around a great ( Rolex and Speedy) collectors community in Italy that already existed a decade before.
wrong papers for the mark 2. The watch would have been sold about 8 years before that. Wrong insert as well. Handwritten papers are also a no go for me.....especially for a COSC watch that was not sold by Bucherer. The case is nice. If that is refinished then they are getting pretty good. The case looks virgin to me.........worth 20k nope. I would be in the mid to low teens. The goodies look put together to me so no bonus for that. Lug width is a slippery slope that is hard to photograph and can be easily enhanced or reduced based on the angle.
I know, and as much as I hate generalizations, I feel like italian vintage watch dealers are a minefield.
Man, I need to get my case recut, find some BPs and then float to a dealer in the EU for a real pay day What is sad is that people buy into this shit.
case looks virgin to me. There are a few tells i look for and this had them......alas not much to discuss here as it looks to have sold.
I find it unlikely that it has sold, it's still on their website. The seller has probably just taken it off chrono24 after we criticized him on here! The price is crazy, on a really good day it's worth half of that. https://www.orologeriaduomo.com/prodotti-prod-597-rolex-Ref.1675-gmt-master-vintage.html
