That's a pretty big sail for such a little boat. Probably not to scale, huh? :whistling:

The GUB era watches were pretty basic. Glashütte is only a high end brand in it's recent reincarnation, much like Blancpain.

Not exactly high end finishing here on this GUB 70.1 for example...

But yes an interesting dial on that one! Any movement shot?

Agree the GUB calibers are generally very basic. But.... if you can find one with a pre-GUB takeover Lange caliber 28 - still not highly finished- you'll nonetheless have a rather rare gem. The only made-for-the wrist wrist caliber Lange made in their original incarnation.

Certainly, but that is a Lange, not a "Glashütte" (and yes I'm aware of the history of the companies). I'm sure I saw one of those in the museum in Glashütte actually...along with the complete history of watches made by the company (and others in the city), including the funky GUB watches from when they were very cheaply made.

They can actually be fairly attractive watches, and of course some of the modern GO's are patterned after the watches from the era:

My only point in posting was to let those who don't know that if they come across a rather poorly finished Glashütte (sans "Original"), it's not necessarily something fake, as it might be from the Communist era. BTW parts for these are not readily available...

    Cheers, Al
