I recently picked up this omega Naiad which is need of a service!
The case ref is 57, which is one the inside of the case back and also between the lugs.

There are some markings on the back which I assume are military.
I've tried to find similar marking but to no avail, and was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on them for me.

    The full ref numbers are

    S ^ S
    I
    9951476
    Z2556

    Thanks in advance

    I read it as follows

    /|\
    SIS
    9951476
    Z2556

I can't confirm at the moment but my gut says it British Mil Issued.

If I was an SIS agent, I don't think I'd want a watch on my wrist that said SIS!

I think SIS is a very modern acronym, would have been MI6 earlier or SSB.
Doubt either of their agents would have worn anything identifying.

Great observation hadn't made the connection of sis to mi.x, ni.x, soe etc until you mentioned it. Being a Lemaniac i saw crowfoot esclon placed directly above the "I" and immediatly thought that's an Indian issue watch of some kind. Never seen one before.

I did see some mention of sis in the spy sense having been issued "grab bags" well pouches at least with an Omega in. The obviously would not be marked. As my guess the watches would have uses. Good enough to navigate by, tell time and as currency.

I am not at home so I cannot check Knirim. It's not the book to take on a train.lol I'll have a look this evening.

    @Mods,
Do you have a approximate date on the watch based on serial number?

Does the inside case ref 57 refer to the case model or year of manufacture?

Could you post a caseback image of the whole caseback?

Finally, @CanberraOmega, is a seasoned vet on watches me I'm just a noob trying to learn more. So please accept my opinion as such.

Lastly. Lol really cool watch irrespective of its Mil or non Mil background.

    @tapaptpat
Hi I don't have a date yet from the serial.
I will try and get one.
However I did see a watch makers mark for 1946 I think. I'm away from the watch at the moment.
I believe the 57 is a case ref. It's also between the lugs ala rolex case refs.
Will have to check to see what AJTT says.
From memory these were made in 1937.
    Thanks

I realise that seeing the grab bag pouch it is a US version not UK I stated.

    No, not correct

these numbers on case back lid and on the main case part was to help the case maker to pair the parts who match after they had been worked on separately
Often this number was punched on the back side of the lugs (at least on many Omegas i have seen)

The SIS marking is very similar to the Indian Army Service Wristwatch mark. This marking is listed in "A concise guide to military timepieces" by Z.M. Wesolowski, page 13.
