Gilt dial GMT

I've been after a gilt dial GMT for some time. I was recently offered this one, unfortunately the indices have been relumed but apart from that it's all original. Now my problem is has the relume ruined the watches value or is it still worth buying at the right price?
Better still can the overly bright relume be fixed?
The seller is looking for £4750 for it.

There are some who wont even bother to look at a relumed Rollie, others more forgiving. Whether you can forgive, well, only you can decide. For me, always better to hold out, save, find the best possible example and close your eyes and jump....
Good luck!

It all depends on the the price. Relume devalue somewhat, but not nearly as much as a refinished dial. At least it looks neatly done. Are the hands also relumed to match?

Comes out to around 7k USD, the bracelet itself is worth close to $1k if it's a 7206. I think prices for original gilt 1675s have jumped up to $8-10k so it's a fair price IMO considering the flaws. The relume job doesn't look terrible.

Can anything be done about the relume? I mean is it possible to redo it more sympathetically.

I'm sure it could be redone, but honestly I'd leave it as is. No point of risking scratching the glossy surface as it looks to be in pretty good condition.

So what was the point of reluming the dial and not the hands? ::facepalm1::

At that price I'd wait for a better original example and pay a little more if you can afford it...

I have seen a beauty on the Sweeping Hands website. Trouble is Jason's looking for £7000 for it.

what we all know is that if you buy it, after you wear it, it will drive you freakin' nuts and you may never wear it again. It's a lot of money to spend on something that isn't original.

wait, save some more and buy one you'll be happy to wear.

I was hesitant, but since base1k chimed in, I'll sing along- I too prefer the (a) gilt GMT.

100% agree. The Explorer was £2500 the Gilt dial, as above, £4750. In better condition £6k to £7k. Unfortunately the budget will only stretch so far at the moment. And I do think these Explorers are under valued at the moment.

Too bad you couldn't have held out for better condition/not-relumed 1675. Even though it's more $ than the Exp II, it has way more going for it...but that's just my humble opinion.

Gaz, I think the explorer will be regarded just as well as the GMT and you've made an excellent buy.

I hesitate to call them undiscovered, but they are definitely undervalued at the moment. A sports Rolex for £2.5k, what's not to like.

yeah, price is good and the watch is pretty of course 👍
However, it is not a vintage gilt gloss beast. And as I found out those are somehting completely different than everything that came later.
I recently bought that one and I love it more than all the later stuff:

🥰Truly stunning and a classic. I'm starting to feel a little green around the gills.
