Hi all brand new to the forum and the world of watches.

Been gifted this watch which I absolutely adore, so will never look to sell. But I’m keen to know a little more about it, and whether it’s a genuine one.

I know it’s a constellation and it’s 18k gold, from the late 1960’s I think.

This one has deffo got me really interested in starting a constellation collection!! So it’s really cool to join this forum.

C-case 18k constellation...... nice gift.

Yes it’s real.

There is a thread on C-cases here somewhere.

But here is the Constellation Bible

That’s a lovely gift to receive. Looks all nice and genuine to me. If you’re able to get the watch opened you’ll find the relevant reference numbers to identify the watch case and movement number (that can give you the date of the watch’s production). I would advise taking it to a watch repairer to do this if it’s not something you’ve done before. The gold is quite soft and can easily be scratched.
If it’s been sitting around a while unused, you might want to consider getting it serviced to ensure that the important moving parts are properly oiled and will not cause any damage. If you let us know where you’re based I’m sure members here will be able to recommend a watch repairer.
Regards
Chris

Thanks so much Chris, I think a service might well be in order. I’m in south London, so if anyone can recommend a watch repairer that would be amazing!

BTW I would be guessing, that it is caliber 751 reference number 168.016 or 168.019 or 168.029. Can you please let me know once you know for sure? 😉

You have been lucky - not only a nice 18k example, but the case appears to be in crisp original condition. By that I mean it shows no signs of enthusiastic polishing, buffing or similar 'improvement'. All too often, nice vintage gold watches are spoiled by people wanting to make them all shiny!

When you take it to be serviced, it would be wise to say to the watchmaker that you specifically do not want the watch case to be polished, cleaned up, or whatever - just left as it is. Some would know already, but I can tell you from bitter experience that others need to be told, and very firmly.

You can safely clean the case yourself by using a soft silver cloth or microfibre - a gentle wipe will have the gold glowing, without removing the brushing to the side surfaces.

Enjoy your watch. It is a really good jump start to becoming a Constellation addict. And you can begin looking for the right box......

You’re spoilt for choice then. Check out cjnwatch.co.uk, watchguy.co.uk or mitka.co.uk that come recommended. I’m sure some of the other members can also suggest some repairers nearby.

Ah it’s so cool to see other Connies like that, and you’re totally right, in that as my first watch Omega it’s super special 😀

Thanks so much for the advice, must admit id’ve probably have fallen into the trap of agreeing to being polished etc. if it wasn’t for the advice on this forum!

A box you say...right off to find the box thread and start that journey 😉
