George Lazenby: the under-appreciated, and misunderstood Bond...

I couldn't agree more, OHMSS is my favorite Bond film and I think George Lazenby was great. I'd love to see the next Bond be more in the spirit of George Lazenby's bond.
I'll have to re-watch Spectre but I got the impression that we were heading towards another Bond wedding in the next film.
However, if the wedding and shooting of wifey is at the start of the movie; unlike the ending of OHMSS, then I guess Craig will get even darker and less Lazenby like.

Btw
Diana Rigg as Tracy = Goddess

Still find it hard to pick Joanna Lumley out of the Bond Girl crowd.
Jenny Hanley was always a childhood favourite of mine too.

I've always rated OHMSS as one of my favourites; both to read and watch. It has a decent and credible plotline, great locations, a lovely Aston DBS, a wonderful 'Bond' girl in Diana Rigg and I don't think Lazenby was that bad. I've always liked his line, 'this never happened to the other fellow'...

Dalton was the closest bond character to the actual books.

Roger Moore was my childhood bond

Modern give me Jason Bourne any day

Try and check out the documentary Becoming Bond
Yes that's a really interesting insight into him and how he bulls#@tted his way in to the role, having never acted before.

Thanks much for posting this.. It's spurred me to do some further research and am finding it very interesting. I remember I saw this film as a kid, but don't remember anything about it. Guess it's time to run to the video store.
Have a great day,
Tom

I was just out walking my pet rat and seem to have lost my way…although GL played a cracking bond I like a bit more escapism. Sorry to be obvious but it is Sean Connery for me I am afraid, Diamonds really are forever - the man with the golden Gruen :0). I do agree DC should try to cheer up a bit and I was not a big Roger M bond fan, but I enjoy his David Niven stories, a touch of class from a bygone age. Not sure where they got this film set from but that could be another post....

Looks like he has also never handled a semi-auto pistol before... certainly playing it safe in that shot if the slide if locked back. Then again Sean Connery ran about with an airgun....

He was Physically one of the closest Bonds to the book depiction (Along with Timothy Dalton). I enjoyed the film. I grew up in the 70's so I was most aware of Roger Moore. Sean Connery was a classic and I loved it. Lazenby somewhat disrupted an otherwise set perception of Classic Bond and Modern Bond.

With time, as I grew up, I enjoyed more and more the nuance and humanity OHMSS brought to the character and legend of Bond.

I think I see a Speedmaster on one of those astronauts.

From above re: Emiester......

This might be the best Bond photo of all time...I don't think I've ever seen so many Bond girls in one place.

He's obviously enjoying himself, and not a vodka Martini in sight.

I think I must have picked up the reversed image above.

Understandably smug here. Up to 10 Bond girls in this shot and "Ruby Bartlett" is still missing.

Not to mention Irma Bunt!

Unlike the other pic, you can't see where Lazenby's hands are in this shot.....Oh behave, Mr Bond!

George Lazenby was awesome! He should have taken the role of Roger Moore. I too grew up with Moore but he always felt very corny/comedic. Lazenby was cool, as was Connery. I could never get use to Brosnan. I always thought of him as Remington Steele. I really liked Dalton for the modern Bond. Daniel Craig....... meh.

OHMSS was a pretty good Bond movie. Not quite as good as Sean Connery's best, but better than Connery's later going through the motions phase (Man with the Golden Gun, Diamonds Are Forever). Moore had great fun with the comedy, and I enjoyed that but there wasn't enough real danger to go with it. Still, For Your Eyes Only is one of the half dozen or so greatest Bonds. Daniel Craig is sort of the reverse, good at portraying a working spy, and good at portraying falling in love, but not so much comedy.
