Welcome to the E168 club =). Buying mine pretty much left me content as a collector.

IMO leave the caseback as it is. Let's be honest, if it is on your wrist you won't notice anyway, and polishing it will destroy its value. Unless you wear your watch upside down 😉.

I don't know how anyone can prove the lume dots are original unless you knew 100% it was never touched; they used to come out during service as mentioned and a lot of watchmakers / dealers used to re-apply them (for various reasons). But they are cool nonetheless.

The original dots are radium, the ones re-applied are tritium or SL according to the time. Would have different glowing patterns.

Indeed. Although I know some that have reapplied radium from people that stockpile it.... 😀
