I have my grandfather’s Omega watch for 25 years if service. I have never owned one before so I was hoping that I could get a little background on the watch. I have looked online and couldn’t find any info. It seems to work perfect and it can in a neat silver box. I am afraid to open the back in fear that I could damage it. I don’t think my grandfather really wore it. Also what is 14 kt gold? The whole back? Can anyone tell me what model it is?

Very cool watch! A nice family heirloom. Beautiful dial with nice bréguet numbers very clean. 14K gold yes is the whole case. I don't know the reference but it is written inside the caseback. You would have to have the watch opened by a watchmaker to see the reference. Good luck!

Thanks I am guessing that he received it around 1965ish? It looks all original. I am tempted to buy a new band and wear it but just a little nervous depending on the value.

Very nice heirloom but you will want to have it serviced before you wear it, or the movement will incur wear and possible damage due to lack of lubrication.

Please do, that looks like the original.

And definitely wear it! Where are you located so we can recommend watchmakers near you?

Nice watch! That .925 silver box is very sought after and is possibly worth more than the watch!

That is not one of the sterling silver boxes. It is stainless steel and was used with US market Omega watches in the early 1960’s.

The silver boxes were used in the 1940’s and 1950’s and only with top of the line Omegas like Centenaries and Constellations. These were extra cost options at the time. Here is a post with most of the known versions of these silver boxes:

thanks for the updated information. I am new to the omega watch brand. When I saw the previous thread, I looked throughout the box and did not see any stamp on the box labeling it to be silver. I would agree after reading your post that it is the stainless steel box.
