Gemini Spacewalk vs Tokyo 2020 Blue Speedies

I’ve been looking for a blue / white panda Speedmaster and it seems like the Gemini & Tokyo models are a very similar shade of blue.

I just wondered if anyone here had seen both and could venture an opinions as to just how close the blue dials are?

my current preference is for the Gemini simply because I like the red back case but it seems to sell for a fair bit more than the Tokyo and they really are near identical in look, then maybe the latter will suit me 😀

I found a review of both watches that suggested the blue is the same on each but the light seems to show some differences.

I have to admit that I quite like the indexes of the Tokyo and the red tip to the seconds hand

I've had them side by side before I sold my Gemini 4. The blue is the same. I favor the cleaner dial without the date. Ymmv.

Gemini is much more comfortable on the wrist. Tokyo has a very sharp case back that bothers me to heck. So try the Tokyo on the wrist before committing.

These 2 comemorate major events. One happened, the other not... I would think about that too before choosing 😗

Thanks for this, I thought the blues probably matched but couldn't be sure from online images!

I am much more attracted to the Gemini from an 'event' perspective 😀

I prefer the Gemini because it doesn't have the red tip on the sweep hand.

And funnily enough, it is for exactly that reason and the cleaner dial that I would actually prefer the Japan Olympics version over the Gemini. Full disclosure, it is also the latter I happen to own myself...

It's very much a matter of personal taste. The only reason I could think of preferring the Gemini as a watch (apart from the event it commemorates, which I do not value too much with any of my watches) would be its hesalite crystal.

I love my Gemini, how the blue can be quite dark, and then bright and radiant if it catches some light at the right angle

Reading the comments about the red tipped chrono hand I was sure they got it wrong…. ”My Gemini have a red tipped hand” was my thought until I checked the watch…..getting old🤨

Am I missing something?---does one of these have a date window?

Believe he's referring to the red date text underneath "Professional". I thought the same thing.

I prefer the one with the long indices. I'm a sucker for Speedmasters with long indices.

"Should I wear my 'Spacewalk' today or my 'Covid Olympics' watch?"

The caseback difference has been mentioned but not in the way I consider it. The Tokyo sits a tad higher on the wrist, for me and my small wrists it makes it a bit top heavy so it sits a bit awkward on my wrist. For some reason the mm or two makes a difference on how it wears for me. Not enough to make me not like it but enough to have a preference.

Plus, yeah, the Covid thing…

I don't own either one but I like their looks. Would prefer the Gemini for the hesalite. That's why it's on my list of Speedies I would like to have. The Tokyo is the cheaper option and I was close to buying one already.

Both cool looking Speedys, the Gemini has the history but I do like the red second hand on the Tokyo.

People are still carping about the supposedly razor sharp caseback that can irritate and leave a bloody trail when worn. The two I've worn have left no mark at any time. Overblown issue, imo.

A fair point. We are not far removed enough from COVID (maybe none of us who lived through it ever will be), but I have to wonder if - one day - there will be a level of intrigue around memorabilia commemorating events that were canceled by COVID.

Maybe something better suited to a future generation...
