An acquaintance of mine is interested in selling this watch which he thinks is somewhere between 42 and 45 years old. I had complimented him on it before, and he is wanting to know if I’m interested in it. He recently went to the OMEGA boutique here in town, and apparently they cleaned it for him, although they did not send it out for servicing. Attached are three photographs provided to me by him. Can anyone identify the model and so I can look for a fair market value? Pretty sure box and papers are long gone. Apparently, the boutique told him it was worth about $3000
Showing the backside of the watch should let you know whether it's gold plated or not: if plated, the exterior of the caseback will look like regular stainless steel. Showing the clasp side of the bracelet would be helpful, too: if it's an OEM bracelet it will add a bit to the watch value.
Me too if as I suspect it is plated or capped or whatever. In that condition I would be more at $1000-2000. A tired Mk2 is not a particularly good looking thing, and a plated one even less so IMO.
Agreed, though I just found a gold plated Mark II with cheesey leather strap listed on Chrono 24 for $4k.
It’s an Omega Sppedmaster MkII, reference 145.014. Manufactured somewhere between 1969 and 1972. Calibre 861 manual winding movement. I’ve only seen gold plated (never gold capped or solid gold). Seems in relatively poor condition, and the gold plating doesn’t permit much (if any) case restoration. Just because someone is asking $4k on Chrono24 doesn’t mean they’ll get it.
