Looking for some funky, lovable 70s weirdness? The Story There was a very short time period in the early 70s when the quartz technology was already fashionable, yet still more expensive than manual movements. In those few years, watches with revolving discs were produced, to offer the digital look, combined with the more affordable and possibly more reliable (mostly) hand-wound calibres. You know, new stuff can be scary. The result are watches that combine the bad readability of small digital displays with the relative imprecision of manual movements. What's not to love? And still. I'm the guy who'd pick the awkwardly shaped cucumber over all the regular looking ones in the supermarket - I just feel strangely drawn to this kind of stuff. But, errrm, a man only needs so many cucumbers? This analogy isn't working out quite as I planned it, but I'm sure you understand what I'm getting at. I have two of them, one has an emotional value to it, so I'm letting this one go. The Watch Brand: Dugena Age: early 70s Movement: hand wound and, as it is suitable for an upper class disc watch movement, jumping hour Size: 38x30x8 without crown Lug width: 28mm Strap: With 28mm lug width on an overall rather small watch that wasn't an easy find. There are a few 28mm straps to chose from out there, but they are obviously made for huge chunks of watches and would look utterly ridiculous on the Dugena Digital. So I ended up having a strap hand- and custom-made for me that narrows from 28 to 16mm on the butterfly clasp. I think the soft calf leather picks up the blue from the watch quite nicely and the light grey of the hand-stitching contrasts it perfectly. I haven't even worn it 10 times. I have an 18,5cm wrist and wear it on the second-largest hole. Approx. 16,5-19,5 wrist size should be fine, but I'd of course be happy to measure it precisely if relevant. Condition It's in a very good condition - there are a few, very superficial scratches on some of the chrome that can only be seen in the exact right angle. Plexi seems like-new to me, so does the "dial". There are small traces of a failed opening attempt on the bottom left side that can't really be seen when worn and tiny marks on the caseback. Please refer to the pictures for details, they are not manipulated in any way and part of the description. Technically, it runs well. I honestly do not own a single vintage watch that winds up as smooth as this one. Regarding accuracy, I'd say roughly within a minute a day, but since there's no second hand, that's really hard to measure manually. It's certainly a healthy, clean movement. Unfortunately, even with an open caseback, there isn't much to see of it, so I can't provice any movement pictures - I do promise, though, that I sneaked neither some quartz movement, nor a cal. 861 in there.
