Hello all,
I noticed when taking a magnifying glass to my "new" Mark ii Speedy that there seems to be some sort of damage to the dial between 1 and 3..

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it water damage, or maybe fungus, or the paint peeling ?

Problem, mung on the dial. Solution, replace the dial. Highly unlikely that the dial can be satisfactorily improved.

In other words, it's 'oomskah'.
ok, but what is the source? Could it be water infiltration at some point ?

A complete service, replace pushers, crown, gasket, possibly replace crystal, test water resistance of the case, etc. Oh, no sense trying to improve the dial. Just replace it!

Almost certainly not a fungus or other microorganism, which would require some form of nutritive substrate on which to subsist.

Fungus or water damage? Both ... and ...

Best advice, try not to look too hard.

I’m betting new dial if it bothers you. If you decide that is the route, may as well try cleaning first and see how that goes.
