From selling the Seamaster 300 60LE to a No date or BB 58?

There is a difference between a unique piece (TinTin) and something that was poorly executed. Most brands have several of those and they should never be collectibles IMO.

I would have to say Explorer in this case. I think Rolex nailed this one with the full lume indices and longer hands.

Quasi-vintage Explorers will never be really collectible, you have to get a 1016, they were produced in way too large numbers. The Mk I was sloppy IMO, the short minute hand looks crazy and the silver numerals were transferred to the new Air King, which has to be the least popular modern sport Rolex.

Now give me a 114270 instead...

Looks great too. Maybe the 36mm is an other option. 114270 looks awesome too. Unfortunately I can’t try the 114270

It’s really nice that we can discuss in normal way here. Not my brand is much better and so on...... A really nice and open discussion. I think both brands are awesome and every brand has pros and cons

You’re right that you’re unlikely to find a 114270 new but nothing stopping you trying an Oyster Perpetual or Datejust 36mm for the sizing.

I managed to find a 114270 NOS a couple of months ago on Chrono24...they are still out there and well worth tracking down.

Yeah, saw one or two for the same price as the 214270

Unless you swim regularly and need 300 meters water resistance, Explorer 1 with decent 100 meters is a better GADA watch IMHO.
yes, i have it as my daily and it's near a perfect watch

As far as the Explorer 214270....the only thing that would make it 100% perfect for me would be if it were a tiny bit smaller, say 37.5mm instead of 39...

Lucky chap. Seems there are a few out there on Chrono24, saw one in Florida for over £8k...!

www.lunaroyster.com has posted a couple of NOS 114270, keep your eyes peeled on his IG and website.

Personally I think the 114270 is worth going for vs older ones as the solid end-links makes for less rattle over time.

36mm is clearly on the small side for me, but it works at occasion. I don't see much of this 36 mm one as it has become a favorite of my wife, hence I have the 214270 Mk II as well 😀

Agree. There are models/series I would pick an Omega over a Rolex, but in this case, the Explorer is one of Rolex's best issues ever. You simply cannot go wrong with that piece and it never feels out of place. It is the perfect less-is-more piece.

Poorly executed by Rolex!!
That’s what they said about a certain Daytona way back I remember!
Yes indeed collectible...

I vote for the rail master LE. If you can find one, that is. I had the same debate, and after deciding I wanted a tool watch feel, I went with RM. less WR, but I’m not swimming anytime soon.

I think I will sell the Seamaster. It´s def. to hard to read the time. The dial is to dark and the lume to weak.
Switch to my Speedmaster again as my daily driver. The question is right now the Explorer or a diver like the Sub ND or the new Seamaster 300.
I really regret that I sold my PO 220150 for it.:-( It was so much better as a daily driver and the readability of it.

I think between the sub and the new smp 300, I vote for the new smp 300. Much better value with cheaper price tag, also less common. The question is whether you prefer a watch with rotating bezel or not. If not, then Explorer is possibly the best candidate out there

I just use the rotating bezel for cooking. 😀 Not very often, I am not a diver or do diving sport.
I don´t have any other diver in my collection.

I certainly didn't pay anything like that for it...but it was a little more than a new 214270.

Thanks again for the great disscussion here. It´s really seldom.
I think I will keep the Seamaster at first and will add the Explorer 😀
