I'm 99.9% sure I'll be buying another GTI, or maybe even a Golf R (when the next generation comes out) and I'm really considering going to the DSG...
If I end up with the R I think it will more than likely be a DSG, but if I buy another GTI I would probably stick with the 6 speed.
Assuming they still offer it 馃檮.
My current GTI is M/T and I enjoy it, even in my daily stop and go traffic.
But I just don't know...

I drove an R when I shopped a couple years ago. Great cars. Get the manual!

I used to have an Alfa Romeo Selespeed, its basically a standard gearbox and clutch with the clutch and gear selection operated by actuators. It was great fun to use with the paddles on the steering wheel with super fast gear changes and it automatically blipped the throttle on the down change. But it wasnt well suited to driving in traffic and was quite jumpy compared to manual or auto.
I believe it was the same actuator system as Ferrari were using and repairs were hellishly expensive.
I would imagine the newer systems from VW/Audi and BMW would be a bit smoother though.

This is what I'm looking at next year, only the estate version, maybe a pre owned Mk7.5 to lose some dip, not sure when the R Est is due, normally comes along quite a while after launch?
Heard the Mk8 R may have an Electric motor for the rear wheels, could be interesting.I hope they don't make it a half arsed effort like the GTe.

Having said all that, if Mrs Wiv suddenly decides she wants the bigger car then MK8 GTI all the way

We don't get the estate version here. Wish we did!
I'm active on the Golf MK7 forum and I think I saw somewhere that they are dropping the mild hybrid system for the Golf.
Or at least for the GTI.
But who knows...still a good year or so before the MK8 comes out. Even longer for us here in the USA, I believe we are a year behind usually.

Sorry - wrong day of the week again, but I'm pretty sure we've never seen one of these in and around Deal before:

Dribbling these out... the Car in front is the first Ferrari ever. ( note some argument about that as it might be built from the 3rd or 5th car which was a different design)

The car in back is arguable more famous and is in the first viral car video.... that鈥檚 for later.

Not sure if this was the video you were referring to, but a good one nonetheless.

Good to revisit this one, and it always strikes me as excellent evidence that there's no need to worry about whether of not you're going get ready rotation at turn-in with a 911 of this ilk. As for the garb, if it was good enough for Senna . . .

There were some skills on display in that video. I bet some of those motorcyclists just about crapped themselves when the 911 blew by!

Go watch the vintage 911 at spa...

Talk about rotation!
