·Hi folks,
I thought it would be fun to produce and offer some straps that harken back to the 1940’s/1950’s from the brand that we love and the namesake of this excellent forum. These straps would be made by an Italian strap maker I already had a long-running friendship with and knew the quality he could deliver, he has a passion and knowledge for older straps that he collects and studies. His name is Matteo Torre.
Because I have already ordered many vintage-inspired straps from him I knew where I wanted to go with this set of straps. We had fun with this combination of details to make something unique and resembling something you would see from the mid-20th century, but with modern sensibilities.
The straps are made of a high-quality pigskin, the kind that used to be in favor because of its durability, and we tried to keep the color palette very true to what would’ve been offered at the time. They are vegetable-tanned and hypoallergenic leather lined.
Antique
Radium
Chocolate
(Watches not included) 😀
Recently Matteo was able to source superb 316 stainless steel tang buckles, the best quality vintage-style buckle I’ve seen or laid my hands on. I’ll let you be the judge. They are visually similar but more robust than the early Omega buckles (that predate the buckles with the raised Omega emblem).
The inspiration for the Frere logo (French for “brother”) came from the brotherhood here on Omegaforums and a tribute to friendships made, maybe I had Louis Brandt et Frere in mind as well- - - the firm that became Omega. This logo is seared into the backside of the strap.
The straps of the period were often stocked in various lengths and sized to the watch buyer’s wrist. The fitted strap had a sewn-in-place single large keeper, there wouldn’t be excess strap to deal with and therefore no need for a second sliding keeper like you see on practically every strap today.
This led us to the design decision of a single large keeper that could slide to accommodate a range of wrists, and it works really nicely and fits snugly.
The grooved contour, inset stitching and rounded tongue complete the vintage look. The 2mm thickness is very pliable and works well on all types of lugs, a svelte unpadded strap.
The straps are all 18mm and standard size and are available on a first come / first serve basis reserved by PM only please.
The price is $100 plus shipping and optional insurance.
Please let me know the color(s) you would like, your address and whether or not you’d like insurance on the package.
From the top down:
Chocolate
Radium
Antique
Because this isn’t the way I make a living I’ll probably ship once every week or so, please keep that in mind and be patient with me and my response times.
I hope you enjoy what we’ve created whether you order or not, be well and kind regards from Italy and California (where I will ship from).
