Good question!

It was on auction with a final sold price of £554. Now back up with a BIN of £800 and reserve not met with bids.

I spotted that too - a comment was added to the original listing that said the seller had been offered a "good price" and that if the auction ended for more than that "good price", he would sell it to the winner.

Nice of him to stick to the eBay rules... as long as it sold for enough money. ::facepalm1::

£497 with 2 mins to go, reserve not met.

Flouting Ebay rules to gain as much £ as possible :/

It's hard enough to sell something on eBay with zero feedback, crappy photos, and Europe-only shipping, but listing things over and over again with a reserve price is probably not a recipe for success. Bidders will drop out each time due to frustration and the listing will get stale. The 554 GBP initial winning bid was more than fair under the circumstances, playing games trying to suck out an extra 50 GBP will probably not end well. Greed is not always good.

Especially ironic since we know he didn't pay a dime for the watch.

Surprised he got the back cover off considering he wasn’t a watch guy- wonder what tool he used😲
Then spray a little lighter fluid in there and use a q-tip to get the inside shiny, and take a pair of tweezers to get that coiled up hair out of there (my watchmaker actually told me someone did that). ::facepalm1::

I was thinking the same thing...

But Dan, these watches sell for $2k+ on Chrono24, he deserves at least that!

Everyone thinks it's easy to sell watches until they try. I wonder if he got some offers by PM here, and is trying to do better. He will be disappointed when he finds out about the eBay and PP fees.

Probably got some offers here or possibly a message saying someone else thinks it's worth more than the £600+/- quoted on here.

Well it didnt sell for the £554 and a BIN of £800.

I bet the reserve is the £600 quoted here... anyone else want to hazard a guess??

First thing I want to see are the hour markers, if they are onyx inserts or black painted.
Well, they are extremely rare.

497euros I think is fair and he might regret not taking it based on no eBay feedback, not fantastic pics and uncertainty about running condition. If this or other forums he could ask for opinions didn’t exist, he probably would have taken 100 euros

That’s another £200 added to the reserve price then 🍿

And when the buyer finds out how much tax/customs they're up for and backs out.

I ended up buying this watch for GBP 430 after direct contact with the seller through PayPal. Then he did not wanted to send it to me since he was a new PayPal seller and the funds were blocked. Very vague email correspondence following (to say the least) ending up in "fυck off knob head". PayPay dispute opened and cash return. So not a recommended seller at all. Just so you all know.

I don’t mind folks coming on OF and asking for advice even if they intend selling their find.
I’m of the school of thought that we get to see more watches.
However, if unprovoked, this kind of behaviour is more than a little disappointing.
Makes you feel like wanting to subscribe to a membership of the ‘OF cynics club’.

And to think that people complain about the 200-post rule.

Selling a watch is difficult if you have no experience, reputation or have an attachment to the piece.

I have only ever tried to sell 1, a SMP PO.

I advertised on couple sites at £2100, not a single enquiry. I quickly came to the conclusion that I was asking too much (based on research), but it was worth that to me, so I still have it. Lesson learned ASKING & Getting are 2 very different things. I was not being greedy, just simply would rather keep it than give it away.

Agreed. This will do well as a barn find on eBay. Don't even clean it.

The quick release spring bars are interesting. I always though those were a pretty new innovation, but those look old.
The same spring bars are on my SM300BT from 1966 with the 1506 bracelet and they seem original to the watch but I’m not 100%

I have a Tissot Seastar from the early 70s with quick release spring bars on the bracelet. So it doesn't surprise me that they might have been around as early as the mid 60s
