Regarding Vettel's apparent 'indiscretion,' having now seen TV coverage, I feel there's a real contributory factor from the current high cockpit sides/halo impeding a driver's vision to the side, as was the case with the Ferrari being beached at right angles to the circuit.

Some of the ill-informed, hasty judgements posted on here by armchair racing drivers - who've never even sat in a racing car - do provide levels of entertainment not generated by the on-circuit action at many GPs.

Not only that, but the HANS safety system for the neck means a driver can't easily turn their heads fully right or left.....this limited Vettel's ability to turn his head to see what was coming when the car was perpendicular to the track.

None of which would have mattered if he hadn’t spun his car in the first place

Gutted for RUS, VET passed him in closing stages of last lap, otherwise would have been on for P13.

Just to illustrate my observation regarding visibility:

I have never been a fan of Seb’s, so it is worrying that I find myself feeling sorry for him. A sure sign the writing is on the wall in big red letters.

Vettel is in a dark place at the moment, possibly pushing too hard and making errors and compounding the problems.Nevertheless, I find it hard to right off a 4 time world champion, it only takes one race to turn it around and regain confidence.

My comment that Vettel should retire was not meant to be nasty, nor was it an “ill-informed, hasty judgement“, and nor was it based on the way he re-entered the track today. I’m just being a realist. He made multiple mistakes today, has made more in previous races (after today he is now just 3 penalty points away from a race ban this season), and has been massively out driven the last few races by his new, younger team member. I am not a Seb hater, far from it...he’s been an amazing driver, but maybe now is the time to think about bowing out on his own terms. Happens to us all.

Sebs in a super dark place. Let’s see what he does next. Not my favorite driver... and you know Mark Webber is smiling ear to ear right now...

I’m sure Nico Rosberg will have something snarky to say... seems to be the only thing he’s doing right now.

Hey we can all be happy for Leclerc even if your a Merc or Hamilton fan. Renault looked pretty good too!

Its 'multi 21' all over again, but now the shoes on the other foot.

Sebastian made an error, but the true idiot was Verstappen. Again.

I didn’t see enough of what happened to understand what happened exactly into the first turn.

Max, starting last, ran into the back of Perez and broke his own front wing.

Hilarious if you really think that. Only 15 seconds behind Albon after starting last and a nose change.
If your not aggressive on the start in F1 then your not a racing driver. For Max it was like being at the back of a multi car pile up, there was little time to react.

And if he hadn’t hit Perez he would have been 30 more seconds up the road and ahead of Albon maybe. But he hit Perez trying to win the race on lap one, just like Spa. He needs to learn patience. The first corner at Monza is always slow. For everyone.

With caution and patience he may have got 6th place. With a good start he could have been 4th or even 2nd if Hamilton had been a bit less careful around Leclerc.

Worth a pop if you ask me, especially in a car that was slow on the straights.

I doubt that high. The red bulls are not strong on power circuits. Hence why they took the planned engine change penalty at Monza.

RB was never going to pass Ferrari or Mercedes on track in a straight fight and Lewis isn't going to risk a crash trying to pass LeClerc since Lewis only cares about winning WDC #6. There's no way a RB was going to finish 2nd nor was Lewis going to crash trying to gain a place. Once the WDC is decided, you'll see a lot more risks. I can see Lewis just driving out the races with no mistakes to make sure he gets WDC #6.

Did you watch the race? How much harder could Lewis have tried with out crashing? There was no margins on several occasions.
He is an exceptional talent, and rarely makes mistakes but don’t confuse that with him not trying.

I agree, Hamilton sure looked like he was throwing everything he had at Leclerc to me. Bottas on the other hand...
