Does anyone know how the ck2998 service dial (321 movement) fit in the FOIS (1861)?

Omega do the c.1861 service dial for the Broad Arrow re addition model 3594.50 Speedy, it’s the same as the c.321 except Dial feet length from my recollection.

Almost the same. The font is a little different (look at the sp in the word speedmaster) and the lume plots look a bit longer on the replica dial.

I’m interested in doing the mod to the 60th anniversary. I’d keep the original hands and dial. One problem would be finding replacement hands to relume. Service replacement broad arrow hands that were used on the replica available but they look larger and slightly longer to me.

The the broad arrow has flat hands but the 60th anniversary hands appear to be rounded like the originals.

I'm quite happy with how mine have both turned out. Close enough to the original but still different enough not to be identical, great daily wearers without costing a fortune

The alpha hands on the left I stock in 3 versions, same as left watch with green lume from FOIS and white Lume from CK2998 Limited Edition. Also have same in green Lume with narrow Lume on both hands instead of fat Lume on hour. White leaf sub hands also nice change to steel leaf or white stick subs.

The difference in font and Lume is very very fractional, hardly noticeable IMO.

Another three "wearables"...the two on the left started as 3594.50s

My FOIS. I used a secret process to age the dial.

As I've said plenty of times, I'm sure someone could cobble something up to make an acrylic crystal fit, but the crystals are not a straight swap.
Hi Al - could you offer any additional insight as to what the basic task would be - work on the hesalite crystal (which if not done just right, would at worst mean starting over with a new hesalite crystal), or actual work on the case itself? Not looking for a "how-to" guide, but just an appreciation of what the task is, as it this question seems to come up here periodically.

---
1. Note to all - the best way to get a nice, modern straight-lug hesalite Speedy is with a Speedy 60th! 😀
2. Note to Omega - please make a nice hesalite straight-lug Speedy 105.003 to celebrate Gemini IV and the first US EVA!!

I can’t wait till all your grandchildren show up here (or where ever), twenty years from now, with your watches, wanting to know if they are really as valuable as the online references seem to say!

“Ask them for movement shots!,” OF members will shout.

And then: “Grandad loved this watch, told us it was his favorite. He wore it all the time! I can’t believe it’s a fabricated watch!?!?”

::stirthepot::

(N.B. I mod watches too.)

(N.B. I thought we agreed to rotate the Squirrel’s duties now. Seems that way....)

The regular acrylic crystal for the Speedmaster is smaller than the opening in the FOIS case. You would have to either find a larger crystal that would fit, or somehow fill the gap.

Note that when a crystal gets larger, generally speaking the tension ring in the crystal also gets larger. So if you use a larger crystal, there's a chance that the tension ring may not expose the same amount of dial as the original design would. If you were to fit a non-Omega tension ring crystal, the ring may not be stepped properly to accept the dial as the Omega crystals are.

Morning guys!

Just stumbled across this thread on my weekend reading in this great forum.
I actually did the hesalite mod to a number of FOIS watches during the last years including the one on that started this thread.
I'm really surprised and pleased to see that a picture of a FOIS modded by me ends up on this forum and starts a discussion 😀
The FOIS is a great watch and ideal to take a number of modifications which makes it stand out the line of all the limited editions.

Feel free to reach out if anyone needs help with their FOIS projects. I'm happy to help!

I don’t think I’ll ever wear my FOIS again after seeing those 2 photos side by side!

I've seen a few posts saying that they FOIS can't be fitted with a hesalite crystal. This watch has been fitted with a one so it can be done. Apparently it needs to be modified in some way to fit correctly, not sure how.

Add a 1035 bracelet and a relumed 2998 service dial and this is what the FOIS could have looked like.

No comparison really

Not mine but a close friend. actually I think he was about to sell his modded FOIS if I'm right.

I’d like to have healite out on, as well as the dial relumed (fatina).

Had my FOIS crystal changed to a hesalite as well about a year ago. Can only recommend it, makes a huge different in appearance 👍
