I took the plunge and bought my first old Longines that is not, primarily, a tinkering project: a venerable 12.68 Z sold in 1953, with nice patination on the dial. But I haven't seen another one with quite the same numerals and dial markers though, and would very much appreciate people's thoughts on its condition before I send it off for servicing and a new strap.
Who are you sending it to? Make sure they DO NOT polish or buff the case. Be very firm with it, your case is perfect, goes very well with the dial -- make sure they do not go wanting to make it shiny and new. Tell them they should do nothing to your watch except service the movement and clean the case but make sure there's no buffing.
Thanks. I am still getting to know the local watch repairers. There are two that specialise in older Swiss watches that do not begin with 'R', so it will go to one or the other of them. I will be sure to specify no buffing or polishing.
