It was bound to happen one day I suppose . naturally it happened with one of my oldest Omegas but one of my most recent purchases.

1939 10089349 hit the kitchen floor, popped the crystal out and it cracked a little. Didn't inspect the case for damage but at least the lume stayed in the hour hand.

Ugh.

My wife probably thought I cut myself with the groan of pain I let out.

Got it in a baggie ready to go to the "emergency clinic" on Tuesday.

This is why I’ve installed shag carpet throughout all the bathrooms and the kitchen.

Good luck with the repairs!

Oh no! Was it still running when you packaged it?

I don't know if that is shock-protected. How is the balance staff?

My wife and I tend to watch a lot of the home purchasing / improvement shows, it always makes my skin crawl when I see that kind of carpet throughout a bathroom. Just the thought of stepping up to that toilet and the rug being all squishy between your toes... 🤮

I have no idea. I did not open it. Should I pop off the back and check things? Gently loosen the power in the mainspring?

No, I was just curious. If you're taking it to the watchmaker, he will let you know the situation.

He's off Sunday and Monday, so Tuesday at the earliest if my wife doesn't get stuck at work. We Justin have 1 car right now. I should skip an Omega this month and but that beater truck already 😁😁😁

I had this happen with a movement and dial I bought for a project watch- dial was flawless with hands and movement was ticking away beautifully (would have been a drop in replacement). Of course in my zeal to see it, I opened the package on the kitchen table, was standing next to the table while I unwrapped the bubble wrap and held it up to see it closer and it slipped right out of my fingers into the tile floor 🤦

Dial bent badly, but movement was still ticking away. Oh well.

Yah, this was on my wrist already. I thought the clasp was attached ok, as I was already walking around the house. But when I reached up for the coffee grounds,.I felt it slide and heard the clunk.

At least it was better than I expected? Lol

I recently had the opposite happen. I was taking this grand complicatoin out to photograph it for the OF chat a few weeks back when it fell and hit the floor hard. Figured the staff was a goner. The watch however still wants to be undead as it started running.
I think the crack on the dial though was old though as there is quite a bit of dirt on it. (and yes, this is one of my 25 chronograph projects -- this one needs hands and a case.

Can I still get this crystal and do the replacement myself?
Get, yes. Replace, likely not. Leave it to the watchmaker.

Fortunately the watchmaker confirmed I did not hurt my dropped watch a few weeks ago.

You still use a creeper with wheels? I'm working on a model that uses anti-grav to keep as close to the floor as possible, and if you do drop it, it's in the field. All problems solved!

I kept forgetting to take the charging lead for mine when i went away, and the batteries are a pain to replace

i know i’ve seen the film with the hand bubble but can’t remember what it
is, did he have the hand of a famous movie star sewn on and had to keep hermetically sealed, good movie
