What was your first Omega (or similar) watch?

Looking to purchase my first Omega and am leaning towards the Seamaster 300m diver (212.30.41) but have also been eying the Speedy... this is why I hate forums, there're so many nice pictures of the Speedy's and rarely any of the SMP 300m diver.

For those of you with both, which do you prefer?

The seamaster was my first "new" Omega. It's a beautiful watch the way the light plays off the shiny surface and it looks great off the standard bond bracelet too. Can't really help you on the speedmaster front though, as I only have the Speediorite and the CK2998; the standard one has never appealed to me.

So funny how the first reply is a black SMP. I had originally had my mind set on the blue dial but but black dial just looks so clean. And the strap options are limitless. I figured I'd just pick up a used blue wave dial SMP later down the road.

What kind of strap is that? I love how the red stitching matches the seamaster. Thanks for your post!

Just a cheap one from Amazon, paired with a cheap deployant butterfly clasp. I bought this one and a rubber one to experiment with, thinking if I liked it if spend a bit more in the future, but these work so well I haven't put the Bond bracelet back on since. I'll PM you the Amazon links (you're not the first to ask for them).

The latest model blue SMP was my first "new" Omega watch I ever bought (see my avatar) and it's still in my collection. I told myself when buying it, it'd be my one big watch purchase for my life. Well, within a couple weeks I caught the bug (no thanks to this forum!!) and fell in love with Speedys as well and have since bought a Speedy Moonwatch as well as was fortunate enough to reserve a #speedytuesday LE!

What would you say are the two big differences you notice while wearing the SMP and Speedy? Do you find you favor one over the other?

Pleasure. I prefer the old 1120 cal to the new coaxial ones, the chrome applied log with the red doesnt work for me. The old bond is far nicer for me

What are you wearing the watch with? Do you Dive?

Other than a few fashion watches, this is my first "real" watch. Therefore, it'll be my everyday watch and I want to be able to wear it dressed up (suit and tie) but also dressed down (jeans and shirt). I'm 27 and my wardrobe is pretty modern and classy, not the f***boy style you see kids wearing these days.

Oh, and no on diving. Would be neat to get into it though!

If that is the case... The Seamaster dresses down a bit better, the Speedmaster dresses up a bit better. This is mostly due to the thickness of the watch. The Speedy is thinner.

A seamaster for a seahawks fan sounds about right.

I've seen some people switch the seamaster bracelet with one similar to the speedmaster. Not sure if I would go that far since it require some modifications to the bracelet but I do plan on getting some leather straps in the future, maybe that will help make it dressier?

I prefer one over the other. Some prefer the other. Others prefer both one and the other. Some prefer neither. Both are too small for some wrists and too large for others, yet on many wrists, one or the other is just right. Both dress up or down well, or neither does either, or one does and the other doesn't whichever.

    Have we covered it?

GTF outa here and try them both, then buy the one YOU prefer - or the other.

Blond or Brunette, go with the one that speaks to you and not the consensus.
