Hey all! Long time lurker, first time poster because... I'm (hopefully) about to make my first vintage purchase!

Saw this speedy at a well-regarded shop, and fell in love. But being overly cautious, I figure I'd share here to get a second opinion.

Did not get a chance to see the 861 movement inside, but it is supposedly serial 30.584.XXX which puts it in the correct range for 1969. I have a good idea of what it should be worth, but the collective internet also has a sharper eye than I do. So, what do we think? Thanks!

assuming it needs service, it looks to me to have all correct -69 parts. depending on the case polish 5000-5500 is fair game. Add another 1k value on the 1039 and 516s. $4500 would be great, $5000 would be a sweet deal, $5500 would be fair. That bezel alone would fetch $3k on eBay.

Now I could be wrong - who knows. :whistling:

    Cheers,

    John

Forgot to add: freshly serviced, no box/papers.

I was thinking the same thing in terms of value, more-so am curious if all parts look correct for the reference. I'm less sharp at spotting polish or replacement hands, etc. It's incredibly clean in person, even the crystal (which has the Ω in the center, but not visible in pics)

Looks like a fine example. The bracelet should have 516 end links and have 24 links all together. As mentioned above, it has all the correct ingredients. A service can run ~$500, make sure you see the movement and inside the caseback.

hands look correct - nicely aged trit flat bottom chrono hand, correct for reference. Case back is correct (would like to see stamp in the back). DO90, dial looks fine - those later ones had that minty green dial look. Mine says hello.

Get a copy of the service receipt to see what was done to the watch.

You are good to go, pull the trigger!

Looks like a keeper. Only faults I can see is the lume loss on the minute hand and the plots not having the more pleasing (to me at least) yellow tint. Try to see the dial and hands under a UV light to make sure everything matches. Good luck

Nice watch. You don't see many come up in that condition.

FYI: Although it's a 145.022-69, I believe the serial you listed was produced in 1970. Probably one of the last with a DON bezel too.. I think the 220 DNN bezels started with 30,589,xxx serials which started being produced in August 1970.

    I have a DNN 145.022-69 with a 30,593,xxx serial....

A Premoon caseback DON bezel in that condition doesn't cost a major organ or limb yet?

I know where you bought that and roughly what you paid for it :D

Well bought! I'd have bought it if I weren't in sell mode at the moment.

He can service it too, just ask.

That bezel looks in great shape. Only thing that would put me off would be the dial lume plots not having more of a yellow colour to them but probably been kept in a safe most of its life looking at the bezel!

Just wanted to say thank you to all for the feedback and advice. Happy to report my first vintage purchase went smoothly, and the speedy is now enjoying it's new home on my wrist! Looking forward to becoming more active in the community.

Thinking of swapping the 1039 for a leather strap (part style but mostly to prevent unnecessary wear on it), any recommendations are welcome.
