Hi All,

Wanted to introduce myself and thank all of you for the incredible repository of information conributed to here.

I'm new to Omega watches having spent much of my horological journey with Japanese watches Seikos Casios and an Orient which I love but the time has come to make a foray into Swiss watches.

I have been reading up on what to look for and still have a ways to go to educate myself.

I am particularly drawn to vintage Omegas particularly the Seamaster, De Ville, Jumbo and Red Star.

I'd be grateful if you could let me know your thoughts on various watches as I find them.

TIA

Welcome, Ken, I'm sure people will be happy to provide feedback. And please don't hesitate to participate in the Seiko sub-forum, we particularly love photos.

For the 14734, I'm not seeing any obvious problems at first glance, but I would like to see a clear face-on photo of the dial.

I really don't like the condition of the dial on the 2639. Given the serious damage, I don't think that the crown issue degrades the value much further, but I wouldn't consider buying it.

Thanks Dan I'm going to pass on both. Will post more as I find them..

One of my collecting rules is “never let a wrong or wrecked crown stop a purchase”. The sub-rules are “as long as it’s reflected in the price” and “everything else is fine”.

But I’m with Dan on that particular watch. You can do better, for sure. 😀

How about this one - going for 600 pounds. Overpriced?

Less desirable 10xx movement, green stain 🤮
definite pass

thoughts on this one 250 pounds starting bid:

Quite polished case, bad dial damage, movement looks ok. I would pass based on dial

one more this one looks beautiful to my untrained eye - what do you all think?

Movement looks nice. Case polished, lots of dial patina. Maybe prior water ingress? Not for me but many like the heavy patina.

I would definitely pass on the 2 first ones : most probably water ingress has badly damaged the dial ; but as already commented by @SOG53 , the heavy patina on the latter can be quite attractive, but do not overpay for that as it is quite restricting.

That one probably has a 9K gold case made in Birmingham if that matters to you. It looks like a Dennison 13322. That dial is pretty far gone, there are better ones out there in the mid hundreds of £

red arrow: Maybe because of the angle: different spaces at the symbol
(green arrow: never seen this line before , maybe someone an OF knows details)

dial looks natural aged (a bit of moisture) A nice, golden slim dress-watch.
