I have another bumper with 1157XXXX serial number. Omega told me it was from 1950. Close enough.

Very nice example of an early Seamaster.

Hi, sorry to dig up an old post. However I wanted to ask how you found this out - was it from an extract from the archives? All serial number checkers online say 1100xxxx serial numbers are between 1947-1959, with 1950 starting at 1200xxxx.

No. This was before Omega started charging for what in most cases is a worthless piece of paper.

In the olden days (pre-2012), when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, you used to be able to send Omega an email and they would answer you.

Right, okay. What surprises me is how none of the online serial checkers have cottoned onto the fact that anything after 1157xxxx is supposedly 1950. They all say up to 12… I have just bought a watch with a serial 1190xxxx and thus it was ‘dated’ by the seller to 1949. However I am now thinking that this was probably wrong

There may be a difference of 2 years or more between the date that the movement was produced and when it was delivered by Omega to an importer or wholesaler. In the case of a tested chronometer, it could take longer.

Oh that’s not something I considered! So there is hope. For me part of it for me is the novelty of thinking it is from the 40s. I have ordered an extract so we will see. It’s a cal. 342 2493 with full Arabic numerals and leaf hands. I’ve not seen many others like it.
