    Hi
I'm a newbie and looking to start collecting vintage Omega's. As with most newbies my search is mostly on EBay at the moment. Having read about all the fakes around and in some cases how difficult it is distinguish them from original I'm feeling a bit out of my depth. Which is why I'm here!
I've seen a seamaster automatic date 1970s that I quite fancy but I'm not certain all is as it seems. It's a Cal1010 23 jewel. From what I've been able to find it seems that the 1012 was 23 jewel and the 1010 was 17 jewel. So is this a Frankenstein movement or did they produce cal 1010 23jewel?
Are there any particular things to look out for in the seamasters to rule out fakes? What are opinions on the 1010?

I think you could be right.... something about the dial doesn't look quite right either to my eye... and the crown looks to be wrong.

I'm in the US and I've sold several to members in Australia. South Africa shouldn't be any worse, should it?

I am sure you can find one able to ship to your location. A great and affordable entry into vintage Omega is the cal 26x and 28x family. They come in a huge variety of case and dial designs and I would bet that most Omega collectors have had or have one (or several). $400-600 should buy you a great piece. Here are some of mine for inspiration, so you get an idea

    Great shout!

Also the 60X Geneves if you fancy something a little more 60's/70's

The 135.041 is a personal favourite, comes in a variety of colours, and tends to sell £250-£500.

Yes, those later 60s/70s designs are great! Subtle but still make a bit more "noise" that the 50s/early 60s models :)

Thanks guys! I quite fancy the 60s/70s models so will keep those cal in mind. The suggestions are a good price range for a first time.

    The 3rd is a 2639-1 from 1950 or 1951

Ok so I've had a look around and found this

It's not prestine but what I found interesting was the cal 560. Reading up it seems that it's not that common. What are your your thoughts? The engraving of the case looks almost too good to me like it's laser engraved. Wouldn't it have been stamped in the 60s
    Thanks
