·Friends,
I hope you all are well. This is my first post and first visit here at your lovely forum.
I enthusiastically found an Omega Speedmaster Professional watch in my father’s safety deposit box last month and I would be genuinely thrilled to start wearing it. My father’s father worked in a pawn store in NYC throughout the 70’s and his brother told me that he was most likely gifted this watch by his father. My mother said my father never wore the watch. My dad was most likely the 2nd owner.
My original intent was to wear the watch, but tonight, I have realized the value of it.
The watch has the following characteristics:
· Dot over 90 Bezel
· Stepped Dial
· Painted logo
· Smooth backed
· 1039 Bracelet with 516 End Links, stamped with date 69 4
I am assuming it is a 145.022-69
I do not know the calibre as I have not opened the caseback.
If I intend to wear it, should I do the following?
· Open the caseback to get the calibre, movement number, and case reference? (I would purchase a Pahawi opener, however I am tempted not to open the caseback as I do not plan on selling the watch)
· Remove the Dot over 90 bezel and replace with a replacement 90 bezel? Goal would to be preserve the original bezel.
· Remove the 1039 Bracelet and replace with either a
o lesser-valued bracelet
o stronger bracelet
o NATO strap?
Thank you all in advance.
