First post on these forums.. I've always been captivated by the Speedmaster Professional and am in search of a birth year 1981. I know the serial numbers on Omegas don't guarantee when they were manufactured, but if I'm close and can "assume" it's an 81 that will do it for me. I have a seller that has a Speedy with serials starting with 4835 who swears it's an 81 (all original) but from every chart I see that puts it well into the late nineties.

Can anyone assist on other ways to verify when it was manufactured? I would love any insight on what the "safest" serials would be to search for if in fact the above has no chance of being an 81.

Thanks in advance and happy I've found this place.

Personally, I'd go with an AD warranty dated 1981. Not the manufacture date, but it's a date that you can be sure of
