Hey folks,
Brand new to the forum but have used this over the last few weeks as a visitor getting peoples opinions and technical info about Omega watches.
I've always been a sucker for a great watch and stop at each jewellers window when I walk by looking at all of the beautiful watches on display which were way out of my price range!
My grandad had an Omega and my dad had a Seamaster from the 70's so have always leaned towards Omega.
So I had a great 2019 and thought what better way to end the decade than to treat myself to my first Omega!
In the end it was a toss up between the Moonwatch and a regular speedy.
Although the Moonwatch was a thing of beauty it left me wondering if it was in actual fact a £4000 watch. Although the set it comes with is amazing to behold how much of the price tag has gone into that?
When i looked at the Speedy I finally bought I found that it fit my life much better. The sapphire crystal glass compared to the hesalite. I'm always knocking my watches, I had a Seiko back in 2005 which I had for 10 years. The reason I had to move on from it was the fact that I couldn't read the time any more due to the amount of scratches!
Also for me it was the worry of electromagnetic interference. I work in IT so am surrounded by electrical equipment all the time. I bought a cheap Ingersoll last year that was always fast by 10 mins at the end of each week. Yes part of that was probably due to the crap movement but it makes me wonder how much was down to interference. With this having the Si14 it should offer some resistance against that.
After a day or two of making my decision, Christmas got in the way of me getting to the shops. I'm so glad it did as when I went online to check again, the model I wanted had been reduced in the Sales! From £3200 to £2200!
Has anyone else picked up a great deal during the sales this year?

Welcome! Great first purchase. Those Speedmasters Racing co-axial are excellent, and will last you a lifetime. The co-axial movement is a wonderful innovation in watchmaking that reduces the effects of magnetism greatly. You did well, padawan 😀

Gorgeous watch! Good for you on the price reduction. You made an excellent choice. I’m not really a chronograph fan but that watch is enough to make me rethink my position.

Did you ever try to polish the seiko’s crystal or have it replaced?

I did consider it and I approached a few jewellers for a rough idea on price. If it wasn't for the fact that the casing was also looking a bit worse for wear I probably would have stuck with it. It was a great looking watch, I still have it lying around somewhere. Ever since I ditched it I've dabbled with Smartwatches and that Ingersoll but nothing really compares to having a real watch sitting on my wrist!
